ANY BUYING/SELLING IN THIS FORUM WILL RESULT IN AN INSTANT BAN!

Read the rules: http://www.cb7tuner.com/vbb/showthread.php?t=43956

Myself, and the other mods have been very nice and lenient with the rules. We have been deleting threads, and giving out warnings. Some members didn't get the clue and re-posted over and over... Now ANY member buying or selling in this section will be banned... No IF's AND's or BUT's.

Beginner Forum Rules - EVERYBODY read! (old and new members alike!)

Beginners start here. Once you have 30 worthwhile posts (off topic doesn't count) you may post outside of the Beginner forums. Any "whoring" (posting simply to raise your post count) will return your count to 0, or result in a ban.

These are the rules. Read them. Live by them.

1) Absolutely NO flaming! "Flaming" is an outright attack on a member. ALL questions are encouraged to be asked here, no matter how basic. Members with over 30 posts will be subject to a ONE WEEK ban if caught flaming in this forum (and yes, moderators can read deleted posts). Members with under 30 posts will be subject to a ONE DAY ban.

2) Use appropriate language. Racial or sexual slurs will not be tolerated. A ban will be issued at the discretion of the cb7tuner.com staff.

3) No items may be sold in the Beginner forums. Any "for sale" threads will be deleted.

4) Temporarily banned members will be PERMANTLY banned if they are found posting on another account.

The rules can and will be added to. Any updates will be marked in the title.

New Struts and Coilover Sleeves, what else do I need?

Finally replacing struts due to blown OEM struts and Weapon R coilover sleeves (Was on the CB when I aquired it). After reading through alot of the suspension related threads, I've narrowed down to the following selection:

Koni STR.T on all 4 corners
    Megan Coilover Sleeves

What I'd like to know is, other than the shock mounting kits (Bushings, Sleeves, & Washers), what additional parts do I need for it to be a painless install?

the coilover kit should come with the basic parts you need to replace when doing the swap. Of course when you get in there you may find other bushings that need replaced. They are usually the ones that fall apart when you take them off. LOL!!

Check all bushings and ball joint boots while you're down there, and replace any that are bad. Otherwise, that's pretty much all you'll need!

If the previous owner didn't retain the bumpstops (they should have been cut in half) then you'll want to get new ones (and cut them in half.)

It would also be a good time to invest in a good camber kit. SPC or Ingalls. A cheap kit can be dangerous (I learned this firsthand...) I personally have the TASauto.com adjustable upper control arms, which use an Ingalls adjustable ball joint, a new control arm, and new anchor bolts with polyurethane bushings. It's not a cheap kit, but well worth the cost.

Regardless of what you do, you're going to need an alignment right away. If you don't get a camber kit, be sure to keep an eye on the inner edge of your tires... they WILL wear faster than the rest, and when the insides are gone, the tires are as good as bald... even if 80% of the intended contact patch is still good!

I'm glad to see you got quality shocks. The coilover sleeves aren't great, but you certainly could've picked worse. So few people these days do their suspension the right way anymore!

I don't recall seeing any bumpstops or dust boots on the struts during my inspection.

Alignment is definately going to be done after install, i had to buy a new set of 4 tires cause the old set were worn on the inner edge (just the fronts) and the rears were dry rotting (can thank good ol' AZ sun for that).

Is there another option within the price range, in your opinion, that you would recommend?

After looking at the price on the Koni STR.T's, you can't beat it pricewise from a budget standpoint. ($235.20 w/ Free Shipping)

I would definitely get the bumpstops, then. Many people do away with the dust boots... I did myself, though they're probably good to have as well.

Without bumpstops, you're very likely to blow those struts.

            Why is that?

The purpose of the bumpstop is to keep the strut from completely bottoming out. Overextend the strut... it's going to blow.
