ANY BUYING/SELLING IN THIS FORUM WILL RESULT IN AN INSTANT BAN!

Read the rules: http://www.cb7tuner.com/vbb/showthread.php?t=43956

Myself, and the other mods have been very nice and lenient with the rules. We have been deleting threads, and giving out warnings. Some members didn't get the clue and re-posted over and over... Now ANY member buying or selling in this section will be banned... No IF's AND's or BUT's.

Beginner Forum Rules - EVERYBODY read! (old and new members alike!)

Beginners start here. Once you have 30 worthwhile posts (off topic doesn't count) you may post outside of the Beginner forums. Any "whoring" (posting simply to raise your post count) will return your count to 0, or result in a ban.

These are the rules. Read them. Live by them.

1) Absolutely NO flaming! "Flaming" is an outright attack on a member. ALL questions are encouraged to be asked here, no matter how basic. Members with over 30 posts will be subject to a ONE WEEK ban if caught flaming in this forum (and yes, moderators can read deleted posts). Members with under 30 posts will be subject to a ONE DAY ban.

2) Use appropriate language. Racial or sexual slurs will not be tolerated. A ban will be issued at the discretion of the cb7tuner.com staff.

3) No items may be sold in the Beginner forums. Any "for sale" threads will be deleted.

4) Temporarily banned members will be PERMANTLY banned if they are found posting on another account.

The rules can and will be added to. Any updates will be marked in the title.

The rules for the overall forum can be found here:

    Help!

I have a 1991 lx automatic. For various reasons the car was sitting for about a year. Once I started working on the car again I have ran into a few problems. First it would start but was in limp mode? The S light stays on constantly no flashing. It seems to only be in first gear in D3 and D4 and wont shit to 2nd or anything else. I can shift 1st to 2nd and 2nd works fine. After that I broke my ankle so the car sat again for a couple months. During that period I purchased a remanufactured tcu. After I was mobile again put it in and then the car wouldn't start. Replaced the main relay, and fuel pump so now it starts/runs like a champ, but still the same problem with the tcu. I attempted to get the diagnostic codes but no flashing from the D4.

Im not an expert but seeing you have replaced your TCU we can eliminate that from the equation (usually a common fix for tranny problem of this nature).

I think the other area of the problem coulb be your Shift Solenoid (cylindrical shaped component at the front of the transmission).

I read somewhere you can pull these out, clean them and check them electronically if they are operating properly. Use the seach button for "Shift Solenoid"

How did you pull the diagnostic codes? If you replaced the TCU and the light was still on, chances are the problem is with the transmission. Pulling the codes properly should tell you the problem. Another possibility is that your new TCU is faulty.

In the future, please make your thread titles descriptive. Everyone needs help, but nobody is going to be searching for "help" in the future. Descriptive thread titles help with future searches, and they also draw knowledgeable people to your thread.

AND, very soon, threads with titles like this will simply be deleted as they are found.

Good point deevergote sorry about that. I attempted to pull the codes but the s light is constantly on. Peronsally I think it is still the tcu. Only problem is if I open it up it voids the warranty. I am in the process of getting another one opening it up and making sure everything looks good internally, I will search the shift solenoid, but wouldn't that give me a code rather than just have the lit up constantly??

A constant S light is most likely another bad ECU, yes.
What did you do to pull the codes? I've had a 5 page discussion with someone in the past that complained about a solid light not giving codes, and they never jumped the diagnostic connector under the dash.

A bad ecu or tcu? I attempted to pull the codes by placing a paperclip in the blue service connector under the dash on the passenger side. No codes were given because the S light stays on constantly. Is that the correct place to test?
