ANY BUYING/SELLING IN THIS FORUM WILL RESULT IN AN INSTANT BAN!

Read the rules: http://www.cb7tuner.com/vbb/showthread.php?t=43956

Myself, and the other mods have been very nice and lenient with the rules. We have been deleting threads, and giving out warnings. Some members didn't get the clue and re-posted over and over... Now ANY member buying or selling in this section will be banned... No IF's AND's or BUT's.

Beginner Forum Rules - EVERYBODY read! (old and new members alike!)

Beginners start here. Once you have 30 worthwhile posts (off topic doesn't count) you may post outside of the Beginner forums. Any "whoring" (posting simply to raise your post count) will return your count to 0, or result in a ban.

These are the rules. Read them. Live by them.

1) Absolutely NO flaming! "Flaming" is an outright attack on a member. ALL questions are encouraged to be asked here, no matter how basic. Members with over 30 posts will be subject to a ONE WEEK ban if caught flaming in this forum (and yes, moderators can read deleted posts). Members with under 30 posts will be subject to a ONE DAY ban.

2) Use appropriate language. Racial or sexual slurs will not be tolerated. A ban will be issued at the discretion of the cb7tuner.com staff.

3) No items may be sold in the Beginner forums. Any "for sale" threads will be deleted.

4) Temporarily banned members will be PERMANTLY banned if they are found posting on another account.

The rules can and will be added to. Any updates will be marked in the title.

The rules for the overall forum can be found here:

    oil light problem

My oil light has been an issue for a while now. It starts blinking sometimes when I hit the right bump. My engine runs fine so I figure there isn't a oil pressure problem. I've been told to check the wiring and clean the connections. But as a noob, I need help locating the sensor and wiring. I don't want to mess with some wiring that I shouldn't.

Common problem is the oil sending unit on the back of the block.
It's located right above the oil filter. Eventhough your car is running fine , it's best to get the oil pressure checked.

Thanks for the info. on the location. Do u know what type of shop would have the ability to test the pressure? Or a tool I could buy to do it myself ? Appreciate the help.

All you need is an oil pressure gauge with the right fitting to fit in the block where the sensor is currently mounted. Every mechanic/shop on the planet will have one.

Mount it, then warm the engine up. From memory: read the pressure at 1000 rpm (or idle/750 rpm, i can't remember which) , it should be 10 psi. At 3000, it should be 50 psi.

You'll need a way to hold the throttle in possition with the car in neutral while reading the figures. A friend at the gas pedal yelling out the rpms is probably the easiest way. YOu could probably rig up a piece of string on the throttle cable to pull it just the right amount too if a friend isn't available.

You can "rent" an oil pressure gauge kit for free from Autozone and probably other places. Just ask for a rental/borrow oil pressure gauge, they charge you for it, use it, and when you return it you get all your money back.

I believe the fitting is threaded in BPT (british pipe thread) but any kit you borrow should have the right adaptor.

Frankly, the fact that it only blinks when you hit the occasional bump probably means it's just a faulty connection or a failing oil pressure sending switch, not an oil pressure problem. But you're going to have the sensor switch out to change it anyways and for peace of mind and efficiency's sake might as well take some oil pressure readings wjo;e upi are there.
