ANY BUYING/SELLING IN THIS FORUM WILL RESULT IN AN INSTANT BAN!

Read the rules: http://www.cb7tuner.com/vbb/showthread.php?t=43956

Myself, and the other mods have been very nice and lenient with the rules. We have been deleting threads, and giving out warnings. Some members didn't get the clue and re-posted over and over... Now ANY member buying or selling in this section will be banned... No IF's AND's or BUT's.

Beginner Forum Rules - EVERYBODY read! (old and new members alike!)

Beginners start here. Once you have 30 worthwhile posts (off topic doesn't count) you may post outside of the Beginner forums. Any "whoring" (posting simply to raise your post count) will return your count to 0, or result in a ban.

These are the rules. Read them. Live by them.

1) Absolutely NO flaming! "Flaming" is an outright attack on a member. ALL questions are encouraged to be asked here, no matter how basic. Members with over 30 posts will be subject to a ONE WEEK ban if caught flaming in this forum (and yes, moderators can read deleted posts). Members with under 30 posts will be subject to a ONE DAY ban.

2) Use appropriate language. Racial or sexual slurs will not be tolerated. A ban will be issued at the discretion of the cb7tuner.com staff.

3) No items may be sold in the Beginner forums. Any "for sale" threads will be deleted.

4) Temporarily banned members will be PERMANTLY banned if they are found posting on another account.

The rules can and will be added to. Any updates will be marked in the title.

    Which motor for turbo

Hey all I know this has probably been asked a few times. But i am looking for some opinions on which engine to pick up to start my turbo build for my new CB. I am torn between the f22a6 and the f22b dohc non-vtec. Seems the dohc has a better bottom end and the a6 head apparently is one of the best flowing heads, so maybe a B bottom and A head? Any information would be appreciated. Coming over from the B and D series world so i am not as up on the F series yet. Gonna be looking for an initial goal of 300 whp, engine will be fully built/rebuilt before boost.

    Thanks in advance

The F22B DOHC bottom end is identical to what you have in your car now. In fact, the F22A6 head is identical to the head in your car now (assuming it's an F22A1 or F22A4.)
The castings are the same. The only difference is the camshaft and valvesprings.

Build the motor you have now. Save the expense of buying a new one, and put that money toward proper internals, turbo components, and tuning.

Honestly, with the engines we have as options... none of them are much better than any other. They should ALL be fully built, replacing pretty much everything but the crank inside the motor, to handle turbo. They are old, and were never designed for boost.

Properly built, boosted, and tuned... any H or F series engine can make more power than you'd ever need in a FWD street car. Even the stupid F22B1 can make absurd amounts of traction-losing power.

Ahh okay... That is where I was getting confused, because they all make different power. I thought there were more differences in the A6 head than that.

Are there reasons not to pick up a the dohc f22b?

I will still be looking for a new engine to build on the side regardless, need my car for DD duty while engine is being built. Would rather buy an engine than a complete car, so just wondering if there were any distinct advantages before I pick one up. From what you stated I may just pick up whatever is convenient/best shape.

          Thanks again

There's really no reason not to go with the DOHC, aside from the fact that it's not an engine that was offered here. Any parts that are specific to that motor (fortunately, there aren't many) would potentially be difficult to find.

The F22A would probably be cheaper to find, as well as repair/replace when (if... but likely when) you blow it up.

Actually the f22b1 is a great engine to boost.Yes it has weak vtec but the vtec helps through out the power band when boosted. And the crapy head ports but doesnt take much to get the cfm's to flowing.I have one in my car and its not a complete turd @ 145hp and 147tq the only way from there is up.Just my opinion on the b1 a guy ik has one in a eg made 279whp and 280tq just arp head studs and a good kit alot i mean alot is in the tune. Also if you have e85 in your area i suggest switching to it and getting it tuned on e85.
