ANY BUYING/SELLING IN THIS FORUM WILL RESULT IN AN INSTANT BAN!

Read the rules: http://www.cb7tuner.com/vbb/showthread.php?t=43956

Myself, and the other mods have been very nice and lenient with the rules. We have been deleting threads, and giving out warnings. Some members didn't get the clue and re-posted over and over... Now ANY member buying or selling in this section will be banned... No IF's AND's or BUT's.

Beginner Forum Rules - EVERYBODY read! (old and new members alike!)

Beginners start here. Once you have 30 worthwhile posts (off topic doesn't count) you may post outside of the Beginner forums. Any "whoring" (posting simply to raise your post count) will return your count to 0, or result in a ban.

These are the rules. Read them. Live by them.

1) Absolutely NO flaming! "Flaming" is an outright attack on a member. ALL questions are encouraged to be asked here, no matter how basic. Members with over 30 posts will be subject to a ONE WEEK ban if caught flaming in this forum (and yes, moderators can read deleted posts). Members with under 30 posts will be subject to a ONE DAY ban.

2) Use appropriate language. Racial or sexual slurs will not be tolerated. A ban will be issued at the discretion of the cb7tuner.com staff.

3) No items may be sold in the Beginner forums. Any "for sale" threads will be deleted.

4) Temporarily banned members will be PERMANTLY banned if they are found posting on another account.

The rules can and will be added to. Any updates will be marked in the title.

The rules for the overall forum can be found here:

Read them. You will be expected to follow them.

    h23 compression?

well, i just got an h23a1 the other day, and decided to take the valve pan cover off to take a quick look. come to find out it has a broken cam gear and no timing belt. shit.
so, just bing curious i tryed to spin the crank, which it did, but i can spin it with my hand.. is this normal or am i going to have to rebuild this motor? ( the guy who had it before me claims that he rebuilt it. im starting to think that was bullshit.) there are no belts or anything sttached to the crank.

unless your thor i dont think you should be able to do that. just rebuild it and while your at it you might as well bulid a monster!

I must be Thor. I spin my crank all the time when I change my axles. probably too much... but it's not hard to do at all. You can feel the resistance on the compression stroke. At least, you can when there's a timing belt installed!

With a broken timing belt, there could be serious damage.

but, the thing is, i dont know if the timing belt broke or not, because there is none there, along with onle the center of a cam gear. and i can feel a little bit of compression on the compression stroke, but not much, and when i say turning it by hand, i mean with me hand not a rachet. i can literally grab the crank pully and easly turn the crank.

Yeah, I can turn mine with a ratchet with no problem.

Replace that timing belt and cam gear, and do a compression test. That will tell you if you have any internal damage done. If a piston met valves, at least one cylinder will have noticeably low compression.

No timing belt is scary... and a broken gear doesn't just happen... so chances are the reason why the belt was removed is because the gear broke.

They probably broke the gear, took the belt off thinking that was the problem, saw the broken gear, and said "screw this... I'm selling this motor and getting something else".

yeah, that is what i was thinking, but i guess i wont know untill i take the head off, if i have to completely build the motor then i may as well just build my f22
