ANY BUYING/SELLING IN THIS FORUM WILL RESULT IN AN INSTANT BAN!

Read the rules: http://www.cb7tuner.com/vbb/showthread.php?t=43956

Myself, and the other mods have been very nice and lenient with the rules. We have been deleting threads, and giving out warnings. Some members didn't get the clue and re-posted over and over... Now ANY member buying or selling in this section will be banned... No IF's AND's or BUT's.

Beginner Forum Rules - EVERYBODY read! (old and new members alike!)

Beginners start here. Once you have 30 worthwhile posts (off topic doesn't count) you may post outside of the Beginner forums. Any "whoring" (posting simply to raise your post count) will return your count to 0, or result in a ban.

These are the rules. Read them. Live by them.

1) Absolutely NO flaming! "Flaming" is an outright attack on a member. ALL questions are encouraged to be asked here, no matter how basic. Members with over 30 posts will be subject to a ONE WEEK ban if caught flaming in this forum (and yes, moderators can read deleted posts). Members with under 30 posts will be subject to a ONE DAY ban.

2) Use appropriate language. Racial or sexual slurs will not be tolerated. A ban will be issued at the discretion of the cb7tuner.com staff.

3) No items may be sold in the Beginner forums. Any "for sale" threads will be deleted.

4) Temporarily banned members will be PERMANTLY banned if they are found posting on another account.

The rules can and will be added to. Any updates will be marked in the title.

The rules for the overall forum can be found here:

Question about complete MSD ignition install

Hey everyone, just an fyi, im only 14 so haha yeah. But anyway, i just recently got an MSD street fire CDI ignition box, blaster ss coil, and modified distributor cap and im wanting to put them on my 91' lx. Im really wondering what kind of gains i can get out of this install. Any help or advice would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!

An ignition upgrade offers absolutely no gains whatsoever. The stock ignititon system would be fine for over 500whp.

It's nice to see a kid here with proper grammar (for the most part) it's rather refreshing!!!

To the OP Welcome to the site and as Stated above better spend your money elsewhere or sell it if you got it for free my 2 cents!

Well you won't gain much. By installing new parts over the old worn out parts you might have quicker starts and better idling, maybe some better mileage... internal coil to external coil will be the nicest part of it though, not really a power increase, but maybe more for reliability.

There's no real reliability issue with the internal coil design. The only real reason people switch is to upgrade the coil... which, as I stated before, really doesn't need to be done in the first place!

I have an MSD SCI system with 2 blaster coils in my basement. I picked it up from a friend that needed money, and it was a neat thing to buy... but I'll probably never install it. I'll save it for a future car that might actually make use of it.

Was either one brand new, or 20 years old like your car?

I've had 2 die myself, but the original was from a 1994 H22, and the replacement was from a 1991 Accord... so I can't hold it against the design itself. I suppose there may be a bit of additional heat and vibration present, but it shouldn't be so much that it causes regular failure.

They were used, but the point is, I don't see any external ones frying like the internal ones do.

True. I agree that I haven't seen as many externals frying... then again, people don't post as often asking how to replace the external, either. It's the internal one that people can't seem to figure out!

I would just assume the heat and vibration does eventually kill the internal coil, and it's not just that people who need to replace the external coil don't ask how... I haven't seen that many threads where people are like "my car isn't running right, how do I fix it?" And the problem being the coil when it's external.

Actually someone was selling external ignitors. If you got one of those with an MSD system, it would be quite a bit more reliable.

Lol yea. But I mean in his case, Personally I'd slap it on, I dont think it will make anything worse, but if nothing get some experience, and it will look cool in your bay. lol

Just make sure you do it right, keep the box away from sensitive electronics and ground it good...don't want to have your radio buzz from the box. And don't put the box inside the car either, the humming will drive you insane.

It's an experience, true. There won't be any real gains, but it's not a bad thing to do... as long as it's done correctly.
