ANY BUYING/SELLING IN THIS FORUM WILL RESULT IN AN INSTANT BAN!

Read the rules: http://www.cb7tuner.com/vbb/showthread.php?t=43956

Myself, and the other mods have been very nice and lenient with the rules. We have been deleting threads, and giving out warnings. Some members didn't get the clue and re-posted over and over... Now ANY member buying or selling in this section will be banned... No IF's AND's or BUT's.

auto stick- sport shift conversion questions

hello all, this is my first post on this forum. ive had my cb9 (92 accord lx wagon) for about 2 months now and i had come across some information that these cars were available in usa from 90-91 with a sport shift feature kind of like a auto stick.

so i started doing research on various forums and asking arround about how hard it was to do the conversion and all that fun stuff. everything out there seemed to be pretty vauge on it or they would ALWAYS just come back with the same answer of ohhhh just convert it to stick. which is not a option for this car.
i found 2 in the local yard that were both ex's and had the sport shift option. i came back the next day to find that someone had jacked the ecu and tcus out of every honda in the yard about a hour before i showed up. so i pulled the shifter assembly and cluster out of both and took them back home with me.

the only difference between the sport shift and stock shifter seems to be a 2 prong connector that goes to the button on the shifter is this correct?

i am taking apart the cluster to retrofit the automatic pattern with the sport switch light because they seem to be the same and mine has the abs and srs light on my cluster and i dont think i can just drop the other one in.

when i took my console apart i noticed that there is no connector for the 2 prong switch that goes to the sport shift. i looked at the list of the ecu and tcu's for all the accords from 90-93 and noticed that there was nothing listed as a "special" tcu just for sport shift feature.

basically my question is this, my car is a 92 lx, can i just wire a new harness into my current tcu and enable the sport shift feature once the cluster is switched or is it more in depth than that? i havent seen anything else that was on the 2 with the sport feature that wasnt on mine except for the 2 prong connector at the shifter. besides that everything is identical.

Unfortunately, the "sport shift" in these cars is not what you think it is. All it does is hold the gear a little bit longer before shifting. No practical purpose, advantage, or fun. It's not like a modern sport shift where you can tap up or down to shift.

oooooo ok. i wasnt sure. so basically its like a ect switch on the elantras. it changes arround the shift point on the tcu. i figured that was the case or it would prevent a downshift if you have it in 2 or 3. i still plan on putting one in anyways because i already have all this other crap for it might as well just finish doing it.

i didnt really think it would be all that advanced just because of the timeline this car came from. early 90's electronic trans was a newer technology, but still its a far cry from the 2 speed hondamatic lol

        Why can't you swap a 5 spd?

He could... but that's not what he was asking.

There is one member from Malaysia that has adapted the auto-stick feature from a newer Accord to work in his CB. From what I hear, it's quite a bit of modification to make it work correctly, and the Honda auto-sticks were never really all that useful anyway. Nothing like the current batch of clutchless manuals on the market today.

the main reason is that, the wagon is used by me my gf and also my mom from time to time even though it is my daily driver i bought it for hauling and to keep miles down on my other cars. neither my mom or my gf can drive standard and they outright refuse to learn. my other cars are all stick so having the cb9 automatic is kind of refreshing from time to time.

has a writeup been done by the member from malaysa about how he did the conversion? i know the site was down for awhile and idk if any content was lost because i did numerous searches before i posted this thread and kept comming up with nothing.

i would like to give it a try and do a write up on how to do the conversion if there isnt one already, i just needed some basic info and wanted to know if anyone else had a previous experience doing this before i tore into the harness on my car.

9091's didnt have a sport shift mode. At least if you think of sport shift as "Manually " shifting gears via a little selector.

They had a " sports " mode which holds each gear at a higher RPM under partial throttle, so you have more power without having to floor it to down shift in the shitty automatic.

Now a possbility is an automatic from a 97-01 prelude. That does have tiptronic sport shifting. That swap would be quite hard though.

thats what im talking about. i know its nothing like a auto-stick car. i was asking if anyone had refitted the *sport* switch into their 92-93 automatic before and what was required to do so. the whole auto stick thing is cool, but its out of the range of this project and what my end goal is with it.

refitting one from a newer car like what the member from malaysa did would be sweet, but again its out of the range of what i am trying to do, but i would like to see that writeup if it exists just to check out what was done and how they did it.
