hey, well i went out to start the cb this morning and it just wouldnt start. i cranked on it for a while and nothing, started investigating and have a couple speculations, i just need further assistance. first off its around 24 degrees out so sometimes it takes a minute to start, but its started fine in way colder weather. ive checked and its getting fuel, i can hear the pump come on and when i pulled the number one plug to see if it was getting spark i could smell it in the combustion chamber. the distributor is fairly new but i pulled the cap anyway and found nothing out of the ordinary. only thing im not sure of is the coil, or possibly fuel filter. so all in all, it gets fuel and spark but wont actually fire, any ideas?

Beginner Forum Rules - EVERYBODY read! (old and new members alike!)
Beginners start here. Once you have 30 worthwhile posts (off topic doesn't count) you may post outside of the Beginner forums. Any "whoring" (posting simply to raise your post count) will return your count to 0, or result in a ban.
These are the rules. Read them. Live by them.
1) Absolutely NO flaming! "Flaming" is an outright attack on a member. ALL questions are encouraged to be asked here, no matter how basic. Members with over 30 posts will be subject to a ONE WEEK ban if caught flaming in this forum (and yes, moderators can read deleted posts). Members with under 30 posts will be subject to a ONE DAY ban.
2) Use appropriate language. Racial or sexual slurs will not be tolerated. A ban will be issued at the discretion of the cb7tuner.com staff.
3) No items may be sold in the Beginner forums. Any "for sale" threads will be deleted.
4) Temporarily banned members will be PERMANTLY banned if they are found posting on another account.
The rules can and will be added to. Any updates will be marked in the title.

Is your starter motor turning when you turn the key?
This could be any number of things. It could be a bad battery for one. I couldn't start mine because the battery wasn't charging and wouldn't put enough power out to get it started. A new battery and It's been fine. Advance or Auto Zone can test your battery for free.
Could be the starter not spinning the flywheel. Could be the fuel injectors clogged or not workin for some reason.
As far as the dizzy and coil, my coil is going bad, but as long as you have spark you should be able to get it started. mine takes several attempts right now but it still starts with a coil going out.
also if you're getting fuel in your fuel rail i wouldn't think its the fuel filter. there is a little bolt on the driverside end of the fuel rail, right on top of it, that you can loosen and fuel should come out meaning you have fuel getting to the injectors at least.Last edited by blu35p4rr0w; 02-01-2011, 08:53 PM.

yeah i loosened that to see if i was getting fuel, and my battery is fine its fairly new also. its getting fuel and spark but its not actually starting. or even attempting for that matter. my guess is maybe gummed gas in the lines. its in the garage over night and ill try some more in the morning. ive done almost everything though, starting fluid, and also pulling the ecu fuse, battery cable etc.. i still cant figure it out

I don't even know why I said anything about the starter. LOL if the flywheel isn't turning you wouldn't be getting any spark as the camshaft wouldn't be turning either. LOL
I think I read something about the fast idle valve or something could cause a CB7 to not start. Not sure tho, I'll check that out.
In the meantime you can check this out http://www.samarins.com/diagnose/index.html
It could walk you through a couple things. It's pretty much basic "won't start" troubleshooting for any car.Last edited by blu35p4rr0w; 02-02-2011, 02:06 AM.

If its turning over and not starting....Ive found the main relay will do this on INtegras and Civics...simple freaking relay goes bad and the car will crank all day long and never fire. If you have a Haynes, it should have a flow chart you can follow that will test the main relay, ECU, everything.

maybe im confused, or unclear about something, or you guys werent reading. i thought main relay also, but i read that when it goes u wont have fuel since it controls the fuel system. well i have fuel, ive listened to the pump, loosend the 12mm bolt on the driverside of the fuel rail, gas came out, and also when i pulled the number one plug to check for spark there was gas in the combustion chamber.

I cant remember for sure, seemed like I had checked fuel on mine and it was still the main relay. But also...the flow chart for running through starting issues once indicated I had a bad ECU....it was completely out of the blue, just happened. Thats why its a great way to go and takes every bit of 30 min or so. Super easy with a multi meterOriginally posted by stlcb92lx View Postmaybe im confused, or unclear about something, or you guys werent reading. i thought main relay also, but i read that when it goes u wont have fuel since it controls the fuel system. well i have fuel, ive listened to the pump, loosend the 12mm bolt on the driverside of the fuel rail, gas came out, and also when i pulled the number one plug to check for spark there was gas in the combustion chamber.
