ANY BUYING/SELLING IN THIS FORUM WILL RESULT IN AN INSTANT BAN!

Read the rules: http://www.cb7tuner.com/vbb/showthread.php?t=43956

Myself, and the other mods have been very nice and lenient with the rules. We have been deleting threads, and giving out warnings. Some members didn't get the clue and re-posted over and over... Now ANY member buying or selling in this section will be banned... No IF's AND's or BUT's.

Beginner Forum Rules - EVERYBODY read! (old and new members alike!)

Beginners start here. Once you have 30 worthwhile posts (off topic doesn't count) you may post outside of the Beginner forums. Any "whoring" (posting simply to raise your post count) will return your count to 0, or result in a ban.

These are the rules. Read them. Live by them.

1) Absolutely NO flaming! "Flaming" is an outright attack on a member. ALL questions are encouraged to be asked here, no matter how basic. Members with over 30 posts will be subject to a ONE WEEK ban if caught flaming in this forum (and yes, moderators can read deleted posts). Members with under 30 posts will be subject to a ONE DAY ban.

2) Use appropriate language. Racial or sexual slurs will not be tolerated. A ban will be issued at the discretion of the cb7tuner.com staff.

3) No items may be sold in the Beginner forums. Any "for sale" threads will be deleted.

4) Temporarily banned members will be PERMANTLY banned if they are found posting on another account.

The rules can and will be added to. Any updates will be marked in the title.

The rules for the overall forum can be found here:

    Issues with p12 ecu?

Has anyone had issues, particularly an erratic idle once the engine warms up, after having replacing their pt3 ecu with a p12 ecu?

I have been having an on and off erratic idle situation that I can't solve. Some sites tell me that it's either the IACV, ICM, or ECM/ECU. I've cleaned the IACV and this worked briefly. I replaced the ICM (ignitor) and the ignition coil, and the cap, rotor and dizzy (had a leak), and these replacements did nothing to the idle. These items were replaced because I blew the ICM and coil when incorrectly wiring an alarm... Whats left is the ECU. I replaced my standard pt3 with a p12 almost one year ago, but haven't had an issue until I replaced my coil and ICM. After these components blew, by the way, the car would not start or even turn. After replacing them, the car starts and runs perfect - just this damn idle issue.

So,... anyone else have issues with the p12 ecu? I don't notice much difference from the pt3 anyway, so I may just pop the pt3 in there this weekend and see what happens.

You seem to be blaming the issue on the P12, even though you've touched just about everything else that can affect idle. Chances are, it has nothing to do with the P12.

Take a look at the sticky at the top of this section... the one that says "read this first", and click on the link to the thread telling you how to set your base idle.

I did the base idle set up proceedure after installing the new components I mentioned, but was not able to get below an 800 rpm idle. And that was achieved with the screw turned as far as it would go. Didn't have an erratic idle till now thou... So, it seems I most likely have a vacuum leak (based on what your suggested thread says).

Thanks for the advice. I'll look on this forum and elsewhere for a good proceedure for checking vacuum leaks. If you, deevergote, or anyone else has a method or can direct me to a thread, much obliged.

It's really just trial and error... pinch or pull various vac lines and check for a difference. Spraying water on the vac lines and watching for bubbles also works.

Do you have a manual-transmission car and a P12-automatic ECU? I had this combination, and the awkward idle sequence prompted me to sell the ECU after 4 months of use.

The P12-automatic ECU feels the need to give it some gas when:

          1. pushing in the clutch to coast to a stop
          2. crawling at 5-15mph

This is probably done so that the intended automatic transmission can shift smoothly. When pushing the clutch in to coast, we manual drivers see the revs rise awkwardly up to 1500 then down to 1100, then standard idle (750). In traffic crawling (5-15mph), the idle is all over the place - enough to get extremely annoying when trying to cruise at 15mph in first gear.

You can either switch back to the PT3, or find a P12-manual (which I did). I've seen no such idling problems with the P12-manual. After selling my P12, I had my PT3 installed for a few weeks. All idle problems were immediately gone.

Thanks for the advice, but my p12 is for manual. And the erratic idle only happens when in neutral or the clutch is engaged. And once it's warm. I suppose that could be a clue. Usually doesn't happen till warm. But when the engine is in gear and moving, regardless of speed, the engine will fluctuate between ~1000 and 1500 rpms.
