ANY BUYING/SELLING IN THIS FORUM WILL RESULT IN AN INSTANT BAN!

Read the rules: http://www.cb7tuner.com/vbb/showthread.php?t=43956

Myself, and the other mods have been very nice and lenient with the rules. We have been deleting threads, and giving out warnings. Some members didn't get the clue and re-posted over and over... Now ANY member buying or selling in this section will be banned... No IF's AND's or BUT's.

Beginner Forum Rules - EVERYBODY read! (old and new members alike!)

Beginners start here. Once you have 30 worthwhile posts (off topic doesn't count) you may post outside of the Beginner forums. Any "whoring" (posting simply to raise your post count) will return your count to 0, or result in a ban.

These are the rules. Read them. Live by them.

1) Absolutely NO flaming! "Flaming" is an outright attack on a member. ALL questions are encouraged to be asked here, no matter how basic. Members with over 30 posts will be subject to a ONE WEEK ban if caught flaming in this forum (and yes, moderators can read deleted posts). Members with under 30 posts will be subject to a ONE DAY ban.

2) Use appropriate language. Racial or sexual slurs will not be tolerated. A ban will be issued at the discretion of the cb7tuner.com staff.

3) No items may be sold in the Beginner forums. Any "for sale" threads will be deleted.

4) Temporarily banned members will be PERMANTLY banned if they are found posting on another account.

The rules can and will be added to. Any updates will be marked in the title.

The rules for the overall forum can be found here:

Read them. You will be expected to follow them.

    CEL question

Does the CEL have to be on in order to retrieve codes from it? My CB isn't starting and I'm trying to narrow down the problem, it just cranks and cranks but no start. I've replaced the ignition coil, ICM and the ignition switch but still no luck. My CEL isn't on but when I jump the connector it doesn't blink or anything, just stays on solid. I'm pretty sure my problem lies with the fuel pump cuz its not priming when I turn the car on. My EAT ECU fuse kept blowing and from doing some research I guess that particular fuse is linked to the fuel pump amongst other things (I believe EAT stands for Electronic Automatic Transmission so I suppose that fuse handles something with the automatic tranny also).

Might want to make sure you have a good bridge when jumping the service connector, but the CEL doesn't have to be on for you to retrieve the code cause the ECU stores the code. I was throwing CEL codes on & off, but when I finally checked it a week or two had gone by with no check engine lights and was still able to retrieve the CEL codes

OK well if thats the case then when I jump the connector its on solid, no blink or anything. Keep in mind that before I jump it the CEL is not on at all but when I jump it the light stays on solid. Any idea what code that is?

If the CEL just stays on and doesn't blink when you're jumping the service connector there's no code being given unless its a code zero(dead ECU) but almost certain it's not but someone correct me if I'm wrong. However, if you're retrieving the codes correctly and the check engine light just stays on it could be a blown ECU fuse, bad sensors, bad main relay, bad ECU, or shorted bulb.

That's pretty much it. If all else is good, then the ECU is bad.

Correct me if im wrong, but would the car start if the ecu went bad? Or at least crank?

I'm not 100% sure, but I think it would just wouldn't be able to give you the right air fuel ratio or something like that and possibly more problems. Might make you run to rich or to lean to

if you don't hear the fuel pump then I'd start with that. Either the main relay or the fuel pump itself. Unless you know of someone that has previously tried doing a half assed wire tuck or whatever to the car.

The problem I had with my DD CB7 I recently got up and running was the wiring just before the fuel pump was rubbing against the body of the car as it snaked up along the fuel tank and was grounding out, thus not giving any power to the fuel pump. That was a bitch problem to figure out

Ur the second person I've come across that has said this, and I am beginning to realize that may be my problem too. My EAT ECU fuse (which is also for the fuel pump I've come to find out) kept blowing so I'm pretty sure something is grounding out. I've just been trying to avoid messing with the fuel pump cuz I'm not in the mood to drop the tank but I suppose I have no choice at this point Thanks for all the help fellas.
