ANY BUYING/SELLING IN THIS FORUM WILL RESULT IN AN INSTANT BAN!

Read the rules: http://www.cb7tuner.com/vbb/showthread.php?t=43956

Myself, and the other mods have been very nice and lenient with the rules. We have been deleting threads, and giving out warnings. Some members didn't get the clue and re-posted over and over... Now ANY member buying or selling in this section will be banned... No IF's AND's or BUT's.

Beginner Forum Rules - EVERYBODY read! (old and new members alike!)

Beginners start here. Once you have 30 worthwhile posts (off topic doesn't count) you may post outside of the Beginner forums. Any "whoring" (posting simply to raise your post count) will return your count to 0, or result in a ban.

These are the rules. Read them. Live by them.

1) Absolutely NO flaming! "Flaming" is an outright attack on a member. ALL questions are encouraged to be asked here, no matter how basic. Members with over 30 posts will be subject to a ONE WEEK ban if caught flaming in this forum (and yes, moderators can read deleted posts). Members with under 30 posts will be subject to a ONE DAY ban.

2) Use appropriate language. Racial or sexual slurs will not be tolerated. A ban will be issued at the discretion of the cb7tuner.com staff.

3) No items may be sold in the Beginner forums. Any "for sale" threads will be deleted.

4) Temporarily banned members will be PERMANTLY banned if they are found posting on another account.

The rules can and will be added to. Any updates will be marked in the title.

The rules for the overall forum can be found here:

    Charging issues

It all started a month ago the battery light would barely come on and go off at night. I could rev it and it would go out but come back on and then it seemed like the alternator would kick in and would run fine. Then here in the last two weeks it would run down enough to start sputering sometimes with the battery light on and some times it would not come on. Then sometimes it would do it during the day with the lights off. It usually seemed like it would fix itself but the last few times it's been at night and the only way it would keep runing is with the lights off. i checked the voltage tonight when it was running and was reading only 9 volts and the battery light was not on. I brought the alternator to autozone and they said it's working fine. Another thing it is doing is when I turn the ignition on the battery light some time comes on then goes off then sometimes it comes on and stays on until I start the car. So I'm thinking the alternator is heating up then acting up because it never does it right away only after driving for about fifteen minutes and I'm just wondering what else might cause all this like the ELD thing or intergrated control unit? I tried another alternator and it ran fine for about fifteen minutes then the light came on bright and was always on after that so I think that one is messed up. So if anyone has any ideas what else might cause all this please let me know.

Ok so I charged the battery reset the computer turned the key to ignition the battery light was on untill I started it like I think it is supposed to be. It was charging at 14v then about 45 seconds later droped to 12v then to 11.5 with the lights on and 11.8 with them off. I then turned the car off and then back to ignition and the battery light doesn't come on like it did before.

you need a new alternator more than likely. but before you go spending money, check and make sure all your connections are good at the battery and the clip on the back of the alternator. also check your grounds. if all the connections are good then i would replace the alternator. you can also removed the alternator and take it to a parts store say like autozone, advance auto parts, etc. and they can bench test the alternator and tell you if its bad

My dad's Previa had the exact same problem like you are having. I agree with Dirty Dave take it to a local automotive store [autozone, pepboys, etc] and they will test it for you for free

take it to a differnt store and have them test the alternator.

check voltage at the alternator on the big wire also. see what its putting out at idle with accessories on
What makes me laugh about forums, is that no matter how much you try to help someone, they dont take the advice. Go ahead and do it the hard way.

You got to respect what you drive, and appreciate what you have, making the best of what you got. and if that means putting CAI, HID's, a phat stereo system, and a idiot in the drivers seat...then so be it!

Damn, REALLY surprised you guys haven't once asked the op if his cables are corroded, everyone is focusing on the alt., which was verified to be working. Anyhow, how do your connections look? Also, how do the WIRES look? Is there any corrosion, have you cleaned the inside of the battery terminals? Have you made sure your battery and alt. connections are tight?
