ANY BUYING/SELLING IN THIS FORUM WILL RESULT IN AN INSTANT BAN!

Read the rules: http://www.cb7tuner.com/vbb/showthread.php?t=43956

Myself, and the other mods have been very nice and lenient with the rules. We have been deleting threads, and giving out warnings. Some members didn't get the clue and re-posted over and over... Now ANY member buying or selling in this section will be banned... No IF's AND's or BUT's.

Beginner Forum Rules - EVERYBODY read! (old and new members alike!)

Beginners start here. Once you have 30 worthwhile posts (off topic doesn't count) you may post outside of the Beginner forums. Any "whoring" (posting simply to raise your post count) will return your count to 0, or result in a ban.

These are the rules. Read them. Live by them.

1) Absolutely NO flaming! "Flaming" is an outright attack on a member. ALL questions are encouraged to be asked here, no matter how basic. Members with over 30 posts will be subject to a ONE WEEK ban if caught flaming in this forum (and yes, moderators can read deleted posts). Members with under 30 posts will be subject to a ONE DAY ban.

2) Use appropriate language. Racial or sexual slurs will not be tolerated. A ban will be issued at the discretion of the cb7tuner.com staff.

3) No items may be sold in the Beginner forums. Any "for sale" threads will be deleted.

4) Temporarily banned members will be PERMANTLY banned if they are found posting on another account.

The rules can and will be added to. Any updates will be marked in the title.

The rules for the overall forum can be found here:

    H22 auto tensioner conversion FAIL

About 30 minutes ago I was converting the auto tensioner on my new JDM H22 to manual when I broke off a peice of the oil pump housing while tightening the adjuster base bolt. I had threaded the bolt by hand until it was too snug, then I started to tighten it with my torque wrench when the threads broke off the housing.

I suspect that I will be forced to purchase a new housing, but can someone please confirm my suspicion before I make the purchase? I know using JB Weld would probably be a little sketchy, but is it out of the question?

    Thanks

something that requires 20ft-lbs i recommend not to tighten with a TW
people think with torque wrenches nothing can go wrong
bolts stretch, threads weaken, TW have to be calibrated also
if you were scared of the bolt loosening itself, lock-tite would have been the answer
Jb-weld works great, but i wouldnt suggest you use it on this part, being that it its key to hold the tensioner

oilpumps aint that expensive, you can find one here for cheap
if you're concerned about the donor pump, just swap your pump, and use the donor housing

note: when removing the pump use an impact driver to remove and to tighten it, try not to break anything

Ok, so a new HONDA oil pump assem is $197, not to mention the PITA it will be to install it. My new question is...should I just put a new auto tensioner on and forget the manual conversion? If I go this route, I won't have to replace the oil pump housing because the auto tensioner doesnt use the adjuster base bolt, which will be a huge load off my shoulders. Will a stock H22 really put that much strain on the auto tensioner?

Really looking for some input here...Deev?

just get an aftermarket pump or find a good used one. take it apart, inspect it, loctite the bolts and slap it on. Ive reused many pumps with no issues as long as it is inspected and cleaned throughly.

the manual tensioner is worth the money and time.
