ANY BUYING/SELLING IN THIS FORUM WILL RESULT IN AN INSTANT BAN!

Read the rules: http://www.cb7tuner.com/vbb/showthread.php?t=43956

Myself, and the other mods have been very nice and lenient with the rules. We have been deleting threads, and giving out warnings. Some members didn't get the clue and re-posted over and over... Now ANY member buying or selling in this section will be banned... No IF's AND's or BUT's.

Beginner Forum Rules - EVERYBODY read! (old and new members alike!)

Beginners start here. Once you have 30 worthwhile posts (off topic doesn't count) you may post outside of the Beginner forums. Any "whoring" (posting simply to raise your post count) will return your count to 0, or result in a ban.

These are the rules. Read them. Live by them.

1) Absolutely NO flaming! "Flaming" is an outright attack on a member. ALL questions are encouraged to be asked here, no matter how basic. Members with over 30 posts will be subject to a ONE WEEK ban if caught flaming in this forum (and yes, moderators can read deleted posts). Members with under 30 posts will be subject to a ONE DAY ban.

2) Use appropriate language. Racial or sexual slurs will not be tolerated. A ban will be issued at the discretion of the cb7tuner.com staff.

3) No items may be sold in the Beginner forums. Any "for sale" threads will be deleted.

4) Temporarily banned members will be PERMANTLY banned if they are found posting on another account.

The rules can and will be added to. Any updates will be marked in the title.

The rules for the overall forum can be found here:

    new suspension

okay i have never bought new struts or anything suspension wise for my car and i was wanting to know what kind i should get. i was thinking kyb struts and shocks. i dont really want to lower it if i do maybe an inch but nothing more because i dont want to mess with my wells or get a camber kit just yet.
sorry for the stupid questions but im new to this and would like help.
    sincerely,
    Remington

KYB AGXs or GR-2s will be fine. Tokico HP Blues and Illuminas are ok choices as well. Koni Str.ts would be the best mild choice in my opinion. Not really sure on your budget but do some pricing and see what fits you best. Add some coilover sleeves from perhaps Megan Racing or some simple sport springs like Eibach Sportlines, Neuspeed Sports, and H&R Sports for that simple 1in drop. Or if you've got some money to spend, I would say for the best ride and looks Function and Form Type 1s should do you no wrong.

i think im gonna do the Tokico Blues with H&R lowering springs which should only lower it 3/4inch. because i dont want to cut into my wells for my control arms.

Who said you had to? It's not necessary, unless you want to slam your car to the ground...and even then you still don't have to.

You never HAVE to cut your fenderwell... in fact, I think it's a really stupid thing to do in the first place!

Which H&R springs are you looking to get? A drop of less than 1.5" will be very difficult to notice.
Also, keep in mind that the shocks you get will need to be able to handle the drop AND the spring rate.

If you want a very mild drop, I suggest getting the Tokico kit that comes with springs that drop an inch or less, and the Tokico HP shocks. It's not a very performance-oriented setup, but it's fairly inexpensive, and properly matched.

KYB shocks, even the adjustable AGX, are really not good for a lowered car (though your 1" or so plan would work well enough... they shouldn't go lower than 1.5")

Personally, I think if you want a very mild drop... get some Koni STR.T shocks, and pair them with H&R Sport springs. That will give you a 1.5" to 1.8" drop, and as long as you get your toe aligned, camber wear should be minimal (it will still happen, but it won't be terrible.) A quality camber kit like SPC or Ingalls (I wouldn't trust cheap crap for safety reasons) can be used, and you can adjust the camber to be only -1 degree... which, with a mild drop, will result in no hitting of the fenderwell, and unnoticeable camber wear.

                  X2

If you have the cash I will also recommend the koni yellows. You can pair them with the nuespeed sport pr H&R spring.

I only say this to you because you mentioned that you only want to drop an inch "right now". Going with this shock will allow you to run a mild drop spring like those two I mentioned, and if you want to go further and get a set of race springs you can keep the same struts.

Another thing to consider is that rear camber can be adjusted using washers. This means that camber wear will only happen on your front two tires, you can rotate and get better life out of the set of 4.

Also as mentioned camber wear is very minimal on that small of a drop.

Good luck with the H swap. If you got a good motor and follow the guide, you should have no problem.

The best setup i came across when i had my cb was Progress springs + KYB gr2s + proper alignment.

Car handled flawlessly. Great for a daily driver.

This time around i think i would try the kyb str.ts as i hear they're a great compromise for daily driven, lowered cars.

yeah thanks this is one of those "direct suggestions" that newbies like me can take as a for sure starting point.

Koni Yellows and H&R springs it is.

KYB doesn't make a single thing that is designed to handle a drop greater than 1.5", or a spring rate significantly stiffer than stock. KYB shocks are a lousy performance option for us.

Also, the STR.T is made by Koni, not KYB. They are decent, will handle most drops, but the Koni Sport (yellow) should be used for anything extreme.
