ANY BUYING/SELLING IN THIS FORUM WILL RESULT IN AN INSTANT BAN!

Read the rules: http://www.cb7tuner.com/vbb/showthread.php?t=43956

Myself, and the other mods have been very nice and lenient with the rules. We have been deleting threads, and giving out warnings. Some members didn't get the clue and re-posted over and over... Now ANY member buying or selling in this section will be banned... No IF's AND's or BUT's.

Beginner Forum Rules - EVERYBODY read! (old and new members alike!)

Beginners start here. Once you have 30 worthwhile posts (off topic doesn't count) you may post outside of the Beginner forums. Any "whoring" (posting simply to raise your post count) will return your count to 0, or result in a ban.

These are the rules. Read them. Live by them.

1) Absolutely NO flaming! "Flaming" is an outright attack on a member. ALL questions are encouraged to be asked here, no matter how basic. Members with over 30 posts will be subject to a ONE WEEK ban if caught flaming in this forum (and yes, moderators can read deleted posts). Members with under 30 posts will be subject to a ONE DAY ban.

2) Use appropriate language. Racial or sexual slurs will not be tolerated. A ban will be issued at the discretion of the cb7tuner.com staff.

3) No items may be sold in the Beginner forums. Any "for sale" threads will be deleted.

4) Temporarily banned members will be PERMANTLY banned if they are found posting on another account.

The rules can and will be added to. Any updates will be marked in the title.

    main relay and various questions

Ok so I got an h22, here is what's was going on.
first the cold idle was out of spec.
Warm idle dropped from spec to about 450rpms every 30 seconds.
then the car started stalling everytime I stopped.
now when I turn the key the starter will not engage. I got power to everything. Bumping the system as I write.

    What I've done
Replaced iacv, fitv, to help with the idle issue.
pulled the motor and took to the shop set the timing.

Put the motor back in and not that the timing would help with the power issue.

Do any of you thinl I could have a main relay problem.
should I pull my harness and repair or replace it
    what should I check.

I am reallu about to call it quits with this thing. I really hate my car right now. Although I should hate my self cuz I messed up somewhere.

Oh the ground from the tranny came into contact with the small black ite to the starter and started melting the tranny ground. I immediately took that ground off.

You need to determine if the problem is a lack of spark, or a lack of fuel.

Listen for the fuel pump, or check for fuel pressure at the rail. If the main relay is bad, the fuel pump won't work, and you'll have no fuel.

The first thing I would do is check all battery and ground connections. Just because you have power to the accessories doesn't mean you have enough to provide a strong starting spark. I've had this issue myself in the past. Clean your battery connections, clean and tighten all ground wires, and that MIGHT solve your problem.

Thanka deeve. I checked the ground and wadoya know I wasn't groind right. So the starter is now trying to start the car but it wont turn over. Imma do like you say check check for the spark and fuel.

I listened for the fuel pump I think I hear it. Sound like sump pump or something. Ill have some else listen too. Imma check for a spark tomorrow. It got dark on me.

If you can't tell if you can hear the fuel pump (my ears are shot... 10 years of playing in a punk band will do that... so I have a hard time hearing it myself) another thing to do is pull a spark plug and crank the engine. Smell for fuel. If you smell fuel, then the main relay and fuel pump both work. Without those, fuel wouldn't make it to the injector. However, it IS possible that no fuel at the injector could be a clogged fuel filter, clogged fuel line, or a bad injector resistor box (I've only seen that happen once on here... but once is enough.)

So when it comes to the spark how do I know if that's not happening. I guess I could test fuel first. First thing after work I'll check that. With that said I bid you good night and imma go get some food.

Deeve here is what I found for checking for a spark.
            Check for spark

            1) Unplug all four fuel injector clips to avoid flooding the cylinders with gas during the procedure. (Thanks goes to Sonia's Driver for this tip.)

            2) Buy a spare NGK spark plug for your engine (inexpensive $2-3) and gap it properly.

            3) Remove the plug wire from one spark plug and insert the spare plug into the end.

            4) While firmly grounding the threads of the spark plug against a clean metallic area of the valve cover, have a buddy crank the engine. If you are concerned about getting shocked, you can wear a rubber glove on the hand holding the spark plug, though this is really unnecessary if you take care to keep fingers or other body parts away from the spark plug tip.

            5) With the engine cranking, you should see bright white spark (with only a faint bluish tinge) rather than weak orange/yellow or deep blue spark at the tip of the plug.

            6) Repeat procedure above for the remaining three spark plugs.

also I have both the VTEC harness and CB wire harness grounded to same place. Could that also cause an issue. I heard that the G101 ground(thermostatground) could cause a lack of spark and fuel if its not proper.

You don't really need a new plug. You can just pull one out and do it (unhooking the main relay might be smart, to ensure the engine doesn't start on 3 cylinders). I would aim it at something other than the aluminum valve cover. Something bare steel (not painted) would conduct the spark.

Now what's this about the vtec harness? What vtec harness?

I swapped an H22 in there. I couldn't get a reasonable prelude wire harness so I made a harness with the VTEC pressure switch, Solenoid, knock sensor, and IAB and grounded that where the g101(thermostat) ground wire is located.

I'm really starting to think I should have just boosted my F22 to get more power.

You're not supposed to use a Prelude harness at all. You're only supposed to add wires to the Accord harness. Unless that's what you did with the Prelude wires (in which case, is a pretty smart approach.)

However, that COULD be part of your issue.

If you boosted your F22, you'd be posting about broken ringlands... and you'd have to worry about tuning the ECU.
Getting more power from an old car always has its share of pitfalls. It happens.

Yeah I used my accord harness with the added wires for vtec and all. I'll change that ground today and check the spark and possibly the fuel pump and all.

                    Thanks again Deeve.

Good luck. If the ground doesn't fix it, hopefully you'll at least be able to narrow it down a bit.

Which explains what each component does for example how the main relay works and how to test the components.

                          pop with a ping

Ok so I got home listened to the main relay and the fuel pump heard both of them. Figured before i'd check for the spark I'll give it a jump. Before I pit on the wires I tried to start it and heard a pop with a ping. Did I spin a rod or something.

I think I got it. well figured out what it is. My head gasket started going bad. My motor ran hot, too bad the damn temp guage didn't say anything, I bent what ever it is that you bend when that type of stuff happens. I noticed my Coolant is dark almost black. My engine has oil leaking around the the head gasket on the tranny side and well of course it's not starting.
