ANY BUYING/SELLING IN THIS FORUM WILL RESULT IN AN INSTANT BAN!

Read the rules: http://www.cb7tuner.com/vbb/showthread.php?t=43956

Myself, and the other mods have been very nice and lenient with the rules. We have been deleting threads, and giving out warnings. Some members didn't get the clue and re-posted over and over... Now ANY member buying or selling in this section will be banned... No IF's AND's or BUT's.

Beginner Forum Rules - EVERYBODY read! (old and new members alike!)

Beginners start here. Once you have 30 worthwhile posts (off topic doesn't count) you may post outside of the Beginner forums. Any "whoring" (posting simply to raise your post count) will return your count to 0, or result in a ban.

These are the rules. Read them. Live by them.

1) Absolutely NO flaming! "Flaming" is an outright attack on a member. ALL questions are encouraged to be asked here, no matter how basic. Members with over 30 posts will be subject to a ONE WEEK ban if caught flaming in this forum (and yes, moderators can read deleted posts). Members with under 30 posts will be subject to a ONE DAY ban.

2) Use appropriate language. Racial or sexual slurs will not be tolerated. A ban will be issued at the discretion of the cb7tuner.com staff.

3) No items may be sold in the Beginner forums. Any "for sale" threads will be deleted.

4) Temporarily banned members will be PERMANTLY banned if they are found posting on another account.

The rules can and will be added to. Any updates will be marked in the title.

The rules for the overall forum can be found here:

Grinding coming from behind timing cover

My 91 Accord ex got flooded out the other day got everything dried out including ecu.I started it up and and there is a grinding sounds like its coming from behind the timing cover by the cam gear.I pulled the belt (a/c and p/s) off just to make sure it wasnt on the outside. Could this be belt tensioner or water pump? It was not grinding before. I am a noob and not a mechanic but mechanically inclined and have basic knowledge under the hood.

I saw a thread about removing balance shaft belt. I think I might try to see if its the tensioner bearing

Do you think you could get a video of the noise?

Yes I can just not right now. I'm outta town for the weekend. I guess I should have mentioned its an F22A4. It definitely sounds like bearings.

Id be willing to bet either rust has formed, or you got dirt due to the flood. Time to pop open the timing cover and see whats up.

It turns out it was timing belt tensioner. Bearings had gone bad. Thanks for the info.

I took it to my friends shop and had him do it. So I'm pretty sure he took care of the timing. So what is a dizzy? Is that the cam gear? I was gonna have him take off the balance shaft belt but he said it is all thats driving the oil pump??? Is that true or is there another way to drive the oil pump after the belt is removed? Thanks for lookin out on the timing adjustment dj

A dizzy is the distributor, where your plug wires plug into. And to my knowledge the balance shaft belt does not drive the oil pump. Many members have theirs removed, myself included, and our cars havent blown up. Id say hes full of shit. Removing the belt just reduces the rotating mass of the engine, and its not a whole lot. So if your not modding your car for speed, I'd leave it alone.

That's what I didn't understand did a lot of reading on CB7tuner before and after I joined trying to learn as much as possible and I know that balance shaft elimination is a common term. I just wasn't sure if there was differnt versions of the F22A4. I had a chevy silverado that was built in mexico and reqiured different parts ie. Water pump wasn't the standard part

The a1 and the a4 are identical other than the tubular exhaust manifold that comes on the a4. The a6 is identical except it has a hotter cam, a larger intake manifold with secondary runners, and a different ecu.

Does the idle feel as smooth/does the engine rev as clean without a balance shaft?
