ANY BUYING/SELLING IN THIS FORUM WILL RESULT IN AN INSTANT BAN!

Read the rules: http://www.cb7tuner.com/vbb/showthread.php?t=43956

Myself, and the other mods have been very nice and lenient with the rules. We have been deleting threads, and giving out warnings. Some members didn't get the clue and re-posted over and over... Now ANY member buying or selling in this section will be banned... No IF's AND's or BUT's.

Beginner Forum Rules - EVERYBODY read! (old and new members alike!)

Beginners start here. Once you have 30 worthwhile posts (off topic doesn't count) you may post outside of the Beginner forums. Any "whoring" (posting simply to raise your post count) will return your count to 0, or result in a ban.

These are the rules. Read them. Live by them.

1) Absolutely NO flaming! "Flaming" is an outright attack on a member. ALL questions are encouraged to be asked here, no matter how basic. Members with over 30 posts will be subject to a ONE WEEK ban if caught flaming in this forum (and yes, moderators can read deleted posts). Members with under 30 posts will be subject to a ONE DAY ban.

2) Use appropriate language. Racial or sexual slurs will not be tolerated. A ban will be issued at the discretion of the cb7tuner.com staff.

3) No items may be sold in the Beginner forums. Any "for sale" threads will be deleted.

4) Temporarily banned members will be PERMANTLY banned if they are found posting on another account.

The rules can and will be added to. Any updates will be marked in the title.

Engine mounts replacement soon. Anchor brand any good?

    Hi guys,
I am unemployed so price is very important. But keeping my car in good shape so I can go out and find a job is also very important. Thus I have posted this thread for pointers and suggestions.

My car: 1990 Accord LX 4AT.
The engine mounts are all cracked. I know for sure that the front torque and the 2 sides are cracked. The rear one I cannot see at all but what is the best way to look at it? Here's the problem, my car barely shake in D4. Shakes a little more in neutral, shakes a lot in reverse. But none of these conditions are unbearable.

I would like to fix at least the front and 2 sides before it become worse and the engine starts making noise on take off or move too much. Given the condition of my car shakes mostly when in reverse, do you guys think that the rear mount can still hold up for a while, given that it shakes only in reverse? By changing out the other 3 mounts, it should take some stress off the rear one right? I don't want to mess with the rear mount b/c I have to take the intake manifold off and thus spend more on the gaskets and all.
For the rear mount, most place sells these without the bracket, I could reuse my old one right? Also some mounts are sold without the solenoid, could I reuse my old solenoid? Or should I buy one with the solenoid included?

***Do I have to remove the radiator to get the torque mount out? I top bolt should be no problem but the bottom one is going to be a problem as it's lower with much less space to work with.***

I found this website that sells only engine mounts and mostly Anchor brand for cheap with free shipping with $50 or more purchase. Any one experience with them?

Thanks for any suggestions and help.

I think you should replace the rear, and to help I have a lower IM gasket you can have, just pay the shipping, I'm sure its like $5 if your in the US. Its a Felpro, I dont need it, I had to buy 2 sets of gaskets to make my h23/a6 swap so its just sitting. PM and let me know.

      Thanks for the offer.
I have a few more questions:
      1) What do you guys think of that Anchor brand? Any experience? That website link? http://www.enginemountwarehouse.com/
      2) Other than the intake gasket, what other gasket(s) or nuts/bolts would I need? Would I need a throttle body gasket as well?
      3) While I have the intake off, should I go ahead and clean it? Any sensor(s) should I be careful of?
I am not very mechanically inclined but I can turn a few ratchets.

      Thanks.

Never heard of Anchor, but i know there are prothane kits that are meant specifically for torn mounts. You shouldn't need any other bolts or nuts. You won't need a tb gasket unless you remove the tb, which isn't necessary. Watch out for the throttle position sensor, its on the firewall side of the tb. I think I also have an upper gasket for an a1, same deal, just pay the extra 2 cents to add it to the other one If you want it.

anchor is pretty cheap brand the rubber they use isnt good enough for shoes. they work there just not a long life product if you know what i mean. if you can try to find something a little better moog is a good brand for stuff like that i just dont know if they sell motor mounts for our cars. i would say yes to the cleaning part, i mean why not its off and you can who doesnt like clean parts and what car doesnt. just make sure its all dry before you put it back together. good luck hope this helps.

Thanks again for the parts offer. Please pm me with your paypal address of the total to 92833? Is there any other parts other than the 2 gaskets you mentioned that I would need? This is my first time doing this and the only car I have. I hate to start the job and find out I need another gasket and having to walk a few miles to get it.

            92Inspire,
Thanks so much for your input. The problem is my car is an auto and the inserts are made only for manual trans for some reasons. Not sure about moog brand for our auto mounts. Most performance parts are for manual trans and they mostly don't fit auto.
Any other suggestions on this topic with quality mounts? I think Moog only make suspension parts. Haven't come across engine mounts.
            Thanks again every one.

i found beck/arnley mounts at advance auto parts. thats a little better than anchor. looks like all the mounts either beck/arnley or anchor are about the same price from them. 40 to 70 bucks each. and beck/arnley make all the mounts for our cars. hope this helps.

I am thinking about buy the cheap front and 2 sides mount for Anchor and a good rear one if I do it, since the rear one is a pain in the rear to change. What's a good brand for the rear mount? Any thing on Ebay?

This car needs a few more things. It needs new shock but I just want stock performance since it's just a daily car. Every time I hit tiny bumps or big bumps, I can hear the noise under strut towers, unless I have my music on.
This is a little off topic but I see those already coil/strut already put together? Are those any good? What else do I need if I change the shocks all around? Do I need shock mounts and stuff if I buy those already assembled?
It also needs all new bushings and those are pretty expensive.

This is my first time being unemployed since I was born so I need to really tighten the budget but not to point where I waste spending for nothing in the end.

Thanks for all of the help and input guys.

Just looking at the torque mount today, the bottom bolt is going to be a problem. I cannot even fit a can of PB Blaster down there to spray the bolt to loosen it.

Any one has gotten their bottom bolt off without removing the radiator?
                    Any tips?

                    Thanks.

Well being unemployed right now I don't have a choice. So I already made a decision on Anchor.
Right now I am just looking for ways to remove the mounts and replaced. I first want to change the front torque one without removing the radiator. Any tips?
Thanks every one for your input.

no need to remove radiator to do the front mount, that is the easiest mount to do, just unbolt it and go no real hard stuff there

Honestly if you are on a budget I would suggest to get the Energy suspension motor mount inserts. You could use it for the front torque mount and it makes a world of a difference for 15 bucks. Thats what I am using on my H22a wagon.

                              Hello,
Is your wagon Auto or manual transmission? If yours is an auto then did you have to do any thing special to fit them in? I was told by many that the inserts would not fit into the mounts for the auto transmission which is what I have.
                              Thanks.
