ANY BUYING/SELLING IN THIS FORUM WILL RESULT IN AN INSTANT BAN!

Read the rules: http://www.cb7tuner.com/vbb/showthread.php?t=43956

Myself, and the other mods have been very nice and lenient with the rules. We have been deleting threads, and giving out warnings. Some members didn't get the clue and re-posted over and over... Now ANY member buying or selling in this section will be banned... No IF's AND's or BUT's.

Beginner Forum Rules - EVERYBODY read! (old and new members alike!)

Beginners start here. Once you have 30 worthwhile posts (off topic doesn't count) you may post outside of the Beginner forums. Any "whoring" (posting simply to raise your post count) will return your count to 0, or result in a ban.

These are the rules. Read them. Live by them.

1) Absolutely NO flaming! "Flaming" is an outright attack on a member. ALL questions are encouraged to be asked here, no matter how basic. Members with over 30 posts will be subject to a ONE WEEK ban if caught flaming in this forum (and yes, moderators can read deleted posts). Members with under 30 posts will be subject to a ONE DAY ban.

2) Use appropriate language. Racial or sexual slurs will not be tolerated. A ban will be issued at the discretion of the cb7tuner.com staff.

3) No items may be sold in the Beginner forums. Any "for sale" threads will be deleted.

4) Temporarily banned members will be PERMANTLY banned if they are found posting on another account.

The rules can and will be added to. Any updates will be marked in the title.

The rules for the overall forum can be found here:

Read them. You will be expected to follow them.

    flashing 43 code

Havent been here for a while, but my 92 cb7 f22a6 has recently been running like crap. sometimes back fire.
So I pulled the plugs, and the tubes were full of oil. plugs gap was average .070, no goood sooooo, new plugs, wires cap, rotor, should be good eh?
Nope. two days later the CEL coms on, and (it dosn't doit all the time, but....)When I'm at criusing speed, 70ish, and going down long slight incline, then re-applying throttle to maintain speed, seems like cylinders are loading up, and then backfiring thru the exhaust.
After a few romps on the gas, it clears up, and is fine for a few miles.
The current fuel pump has over 115,000 miles on it. I drive 166mls 5 days aweek, and had it for tw0 years, had the car for 4yrs, so thats how I figured that.
The car itself has 320,xxx miles on it, I seafoam the gas regularly, and runs really good, except for this occasional hiccup.
I know I need to replace the tube seals, but thats a different story for a different time, but according to the CEL flashes, I get code 43. so I'm thinking new pump/filter.
The last two times I had a shop do it, it cost me 800+-. Im doing it my self this time, as long as it doesnt get me straNded 50miles from no-where.
any tips/tricks? how hard is it to drop the tank? Freinds suggest walbro, but I couldnt figure out their website. Rock auto has pronto(oreilleys) for 40 bucks. What would you suggest?
Also, ive never changed the O2 sensor, could that be suspect? The last two times my pump went out, it would start, but would bog instantly ingear. very different than this time. but the code 43 says fuel delivery.
    you'll love my nuts!

90% of the time, if not more, a CEL 43 is the O2 sensor. If you change it, use Denso or NGK/NTK, NOT Bosch. Start here first, dont go getting all crazy with the fuel tank, cb's fuel pumps are not known to go out very often, but the O2's are.

Code 43 is an oxygen sensor code. Despite the "fuel supply system" description, I have never once seen it actually mean that the fuel pump, filter, injectors, etc... were bad. Chances are, you never once had to replace your fuel pump.

The bogging is also a symptom of a failed oxygen sensor. If your plugs are covered in oil, that's probably why the sensor was fouled. Change your spark plug tube seals, and replace the oxygen sensor with a new Denso or NTK unit (no Bosch, they don't work.)

$800+ each time for fuel pump replacement, when all you needed was a $40 o2 sensor.

o2 sensor should be a ton easier than a tank drop.
Ive been thru two pumps since I got the car four years a go. thought I said that.....uh...yup...rite there...... the last two times I had the shop do it......... thanks deev. Ill throw in a denso 02 and go from there. Glad your still here.

          Yup. I'm not going anywhere

I'm sorry you wasted so much money. At least you have a new fuel pump! A tank drop really isn't all that hard, especially since it's already been done once before. So if you ever have to change that fuel pump again (you shouldn't ever have to in the next 20 years...) you should be able to do it yourself. The hardest part of a tank drop is the 20 year old bolts and stuff that are all corroded. In my area, where we use salt on the roads in the winter, all that stuff is normally so rusted that it breaks off.

The o2 sensor can be a bitch. Get the proper slotted socket for it, and hit it with some PB blaster the night before you try to remove it. It should come off with a bit of effort and a few choice curse words. If you still can't get it off, you may need to heat it up with a torch.

Jacked up the car this morning, pb'd the o2 sensor, then went to get the sensor. I thought for shitsngrins, ide see if i can break it free after only an hour of PB. came loose easy. threw the new one in, reset the car(battery disconnect). started it up, test drove for a few miles, got home, checked for codes, none found, so guesse its good.
But it would do the same thing before replacement. it would act up really bad one day, run fine the next, regardless of CEL.So we'll see whats what . ive got a 200mile trip tomorow, that should show something.
              thanks again.

My o2 sensor recently went out and it was intermittent, I only got a CEL once, and that was after checking 3 times. I'd be willing to be the fuel pump was never the issues, but the o2 sensor the whole time. But I could be wrong, at least you have a new fuel pump. Drive safe on the trip!

If it's still acting up, I'd look into cleaning your EGR ports. They're occasionally the culprit for bogging.
