ANY BUYING/SELLING IN THIS FORUM WILL RESULT IN AN INSTANT BAN!

Read the rules: http://www.cb7tuner.com/vbb/showthread.php?t=43956

Myself, and the other mods have been very nice and lenient with the rules. We have been deleting threads, and giving out warnings. Some members didn't get the clue and re-posted over and over... Now ANY member buying or selling in this section will be banned... No IF's AND's or BUT's.

Beginner Forum Rules - EVERYBODY read! (old and new members alike!)

Beginners start here. Once you have 30 worthwhile posts (off topic doesn't count) you may post outside of the Beginner forums. Any "whoring" (posting simply to raise your post count) will return your count to 0, or result in a ban.

These are the rules. Read them. Live by them.

1) Absolutely NO flaming! "Flaming" is an outright attack on a member. ALL questions are encouraged to be asked here, no matter how basic. Members with over 30 posts will be subject to a ONE WEEK ban if caught flaming in this forum (and yes, moderators can read deleted posts). Members with under 30 posts will be subject to a ONE DAY ban.

2) Use appropriate language. Racial or sexual slurs will not be tolerated. A ban will be issued at the discretion of the cb7tuner.com staff.

3) No items may be sold in the Beginner forums. Any "for sale" threads will be deleted.

4) Temporarily banned members will be PERMANTLY banned if they are found posting on another account.

The rules can and will be added to. Any updates will be marked in the title.

The rules for the overall forum can be found here:

    new rotors or resurface?

new rotors cost about 70 a pair or I could have them resurfaced for 30 a pair...just looking for opinions.....not gonna do the brakes till next weekend...any suggestions???

Well how much lift is left on the rotors is the real question here. If they're pretty low then buy new ones

If they're nearly new then I'd resurface them to save money

Why do you want to resurface them anyways? I know its proper practice to resurface rotors when you install new pads but I've never actually done it before and I've never had a problem.

From my experience for the diffrence in price I would install new ones,if they should make a mistake turning the rotors there is a lot more work involved that a regular floating rotor front wheel drive car that you would have to do to remove them and start over.I guess It depends though on how much money you have in your pocket and how handy you are with a wrench

Id get new ones. It cost me under 40 for new ones at autozone for my dd sedan if you don't drive hard just get the valuecraft ones. I've put on about 4k miles on mine so far and no warping or shuddering has come up

its always best to get new rotors to maximize life and duribility also the stopping power

If the rotors are still smooth and no scoring, do we really need to resurface them? Or are just changing pads are ok?

              Thanks.

word of advise is if you do get new ones have em resurfaced anyways. its recomended by mechanics and by pl who work at places such as advanced, o'reillys and autozone.

Resurface them until you get fairly close to the minimum thickness. No need to waste money on new rotors until you're about .02-.04 millimeters from the minimum thickness. Even then you can probably get away with one more turn, but anything after that and you will be under the minimum.

That's incorrect. Why would you have to resurface NEW rotors that are machined to the correct specs? That's like buying a new car and having to throw new parts on it before it leaves the showroom floor. Where's the logic behind that thinking? If they're warped out of the package, return them for ones that aren't warped.

They're far more prone to warping with less material on them as they measure a measly 10.2" in diameter. Besides, most guys with CB7s probably drive on the rotors until they get dished, which renders them useless anyways and would require much too many machining passes to get it to be driveable.

Nah dude, when we get Napa Rotors at the shop, it's pretty much policy to turn them due to irregularities common with aftermarket rotors, such as very slight warp, which oddly enough happens more than not. But if they are from Honda, we just clean them up and put them on after a quick check with a micrometer.

As for thinner rotors being more prone to warp, yes that's true, but not a huge deal. If they're already getting that low, a little warp won't matter seeing as you'll be needing new ones on the next go around.

bet you if you go to any good shop, they turn new rotors. if you sit a rotor flat for long enough. it will warp. you never know how long parts have been sitting. plus it only takes 5 mins or less to turn 2 rotors doing fast and a slow cut. its just good measure.

would i resurfaced the old ones on an accord that takes 10x longer to get the rotors off? no

UNLESS, i turned them on a machine that mounts to the hub. those take about 10 minutes

It's the only kind we use to turn rotors on vehicles w/HOR. And you're right...it makes it so quick. Unless the customer needs new rotors to begin with...then you're screwed.
