ANY BUYING/SELLING IN THIS FORUM WILL RESULT IN AN INSTANT BAN!

Read the rules: http://www.cb7tuner.com/vbb/showthread.php?t=43956

Myself, and the other mods have been very nice and lenient with the rules. We have been deleting threads, and giving out warnings. Some members didn't get the clue and re-posted over and over... Now ANY member buying or selling in this section will be banned... No IF's AND's or BUT's.

Beginner Forum Rules - EVERYBODY read! (old and new members alike!)

Beginners start here. Once you have 30 worthwhile posts (off topic doesn't count) you may post outside of the Beginner forums. Any "whoring" (posting simply to raise your post count) will return your count to 0, or result in a ban.

These are the rules. Read them. Live by them.

1) Absolutely NO flaming! "Flaming" is an outright attack on a member. ALL questions are encouraged to be asked here, no matter how basic. Members with over 30 posts will be subject to a ONE WEEK ban if caught flaming in this forum (and yes, moderators can read deleted posts). Members with under 30 posts will be subject to a ONE DAY ban.

2) Use appropriate language. Racial or sexual slurs will not be tolerated. A ban will be issued at the discretion of the cb7tuner.com staff.

3) No items may be sold in the Beginner forums. Any "for sale" threads will be deleted.

4) Temporarily banned members will be PERMANTLY banned if they are found posting on another account.

The rules can and will be added to. Any updates will be marked in the title.

The rules for the overall forum can be found here:

    abs

how hard is it to completly remove the abs system on a 92 cb7

    #2
IDK. Probably a lot harder than just disabling it. Why do u want to remove your ABS?

You would need all the brake lines from a non-ABS model, and a 40/40 prop valve from a DA Integra to ensure proper rear brake bias (there are no non-ABS CBs with rear discs, so that has to be compensated for.)

ABS pump was $25 from a junkyard.
That, or wait till you have enough posts for classifieds and buy one from a member.

Do you have any decent performance parts? I'd rock ABS over a CAI or some other cheap bolt on any day. I've used ABS probably 3 time this week. It wasn't crucial to my life, but it kept me out of a ditch.

Think of it like this, is the 10 pounds (if that) worth more than your life?

Would you waste time installing a $25 junkyard pump just to find out it is bad as well? I'd rather just remove it.

I have had a 92 LX without ABS for 8 years and have yet to run into a situation where ABS would have saved me. That includes severe snowstorms, heavy rain, avoiding car accidents, etc.

Its all subjective to driver preference. That's like saying " I've never been in a situation where an airbag saved my life " when you've never been in an accident sever enough to require one. Yeah you've been in some serious snow storms but whos to say there isn't that one time you lock up your brakes and lose control? It hasn't happened yet but it could happen. If you have the system you should just repair it. And the parts are not that unreliable. The most commonly failed component are wheel speed sensors. You could check the pump before you buy it with a battery.

And what if i don't have traction with the left wheels but i do with the right wheels and i need to slow down rapidly? Good luck without abs.

the difference is that thos drag cars arent daily drivers.

up the the owner of the car but on everyday street driving one might prefer to have abs. the argument isnt that if your car has it or not affects the performance or not. the argument is, is it safer or worth driving at a higer risk of sliding on snow. do you wanna take time to go to a jy and get one that may or may not work? its up to you. does your jy offer a warranty if the part does not work?

I'm sorry but i had to go through that slowly to understand what you were saying

Anyways a drag car doesn't need abs for 2 main reasons

1: abs is useless in straight line stopping. In fact abs actually increased straight line stopping distance slightly.

2: The driver is prepared for the stop. Its not a split second moment where the driver needs to slam on the brakes and swerve to avoid something while in poor weather.

I personally would keep it. It makes life simpler and our systems are actually quite well designed. It would be easier to fix the system than to bother removing everything and switching to non ABS hard lines and all of that unfun stuff.

Honestly speaking, I have owned CB's with and without ABS, and the ABS system made braking 100% better. It's just easier, it brakes quicker with less distance. There are multiple times in my non ABS car I hit the brakes and slid on a wet surface with better tires, while I can hit the brakes on my ABS equipped car on a wet surface with almost bald tires and brake in a shorter distance that you will actually notice.

Fix it and it may save your life down the road.
