Hi ever since I got my car about 1 1/2 years ago My car has made a noise when making turns while accelerating. I'm pretty sure that it is the cv shafts but the boots are in one piece and not torn at all. It does it both ways. I can feel the clunk in the floor of the car sometimes, other times I can barely hear it. Does this sound like CV or something else. On straightaways it is quiet and smooth. The car is a 2 door with 170,000 miles and has a 2" lowering kit in it. I did have one time while driving I hit railroad tracks and I heard a loud ping, but that was the only time and it was after the noise started. Thanks for your help.

ANY BUYING/SELLING IN THIS FORUM WILL RESULT IN AN INSTANT BAN!
Read the rules: http://www.cb7tuner.com/vbb/showthread.php?t=43956
Myself, and the other mods have been very nice and lenient with the rules. We have been deleting threads, and giving out warnings. Some members didn't get the clue and re-posted over and over... Now ANY member buying or selling in this section will be banned... No IF's AND's or BUT's.

Beginner Forum Rules - EVERYBODY read! (old and new members alike!)
Beginners start here. Once you have 30 worthwhile posts (off topic doesn't count) you may post outside of the Beginner forums. Any "whoring" (posting simply to raise your post count) will return your count to 0, or result in a ban.
These are the rules. Read them. Live by them.
1) Absolutely NO flaming! "Flaming" is an outright attack on a member. ALL questions are encouraged to be asked here, no matter how basic. Members with over 30 posts will be subject to a ONE WEEK ban if caught flaming in this forum (and yes, moderators can read deleted posts). Members with under 30 posts will be subject to a ONE DAY ban.
2) Use appropriate language. Racial or sexual slurs will not be tolerated. A ban will be issued at the discretion of the cb7tuner.com staff.
3) No items may be sold in the Beginner forums. Any "for sale" threads will be deleted.
4) Temporarily banned members will be PERMANTLY banned if they are found posting on another account.
The rules can and will be added to. Any updates will be marked in the title.
The rules for the overall forum can be found here:

that noise is almost always the CV joint.Originally posted by curtie94 View PostHi ever since I got my car about 1 1/2 years ago My car has made a noise when making turns while accelerating. If it makes a real audible "clic-ack click-ack click-ack" noise when turning then it would most certainly be your CV.
However I'm very interested if it isnt as there is another "noise when turning" people are experiencing which has nothing to do with the CV joint but I have never seen a fix for.
Just putting this out there (not intending to hijack this thread) as it appears to possibly have some relevance (may actually be the OP's exact problem). My experiences are below.
The other type of noise on a turn
--------------------------------
Is not as distinct or as loud as a failing CV joint.
Its only audible from inside the car (bareley if any on the outside).
Its only noticable under load (that is with at least some power applied - alot of power applied same thing).
It disappears when coasting on that very same turn (no matter how tight). This suggests it may not be the actual joints of the CV shaft (reason being is that if the joint has a flaw no matter how fast or slow you turn it should make a noise - as a bad CV joint still turns on the same flawed surfaces no matter how fast or slow you turn).
It sounds more like scrapping noise (can even be described as vibrating in nature). Not a constant scraping sound when it does come up which suggests it may be a loose part (that may have been worn out or come loose).
My dad's car has been doing this for at least a year and a half and does not seem to affect the performance of the car (no expected wobble in a turn).
The CV boots are also oiled and sealed. I replaced all 4 x CV boots myself, cleaned all the old grease and applied plenty of new grease (all before any noise was even noticed). I could say with confidence and near certainty, that there is no problems with the CV joints.
So I'm looking forward to hearing the development of this symptom and the eventual confirmation of the problem.Last edited by JDMDriver; 01-13-2012, 11:54 PM.Rides:
