ANY BUYING/SELLING IN THIS FORUM WILL RESULT IN AN INSTANT BAN!

Read the rules: http://www.cb7tuner.com/vbb/showthread.php?t=43956

Myself, and the other mods have been very nice and lenient with the rules. We have been deleting threads, and giving out warnings. Some members didn't get the clue and re-posted over and over... Now ANY member buying or selling in this section will be banned... No IF's AND's or BUT's.

Beginner Forum Rules - EVERYBODY read! (old and new members alike!)

Beginners start here. Once you have 30 worthwhile posts (off topic doesn't count) you may post outside of the Beginner forums. Any "whoring" (posting simply to raise your post count) will return your count to 0, or result in a ban.

These are the rules. Read them. Live by them.

1) Absolutely NO flaming! "Flaming" is an outright attack on a member. ALL questions are encouraged to be asked here, no matter how basic. Members with over 30 posts will be subject to a ONE WEEK ban if caught flaming in this forum (and yes, moderators can read deleted posts). Members with under 30 posts will be subject to a ONE DAY ban.

2) Use appropriate language. Racial or sexual slurs will not be tolerated. A ban will be issued at the discretion of the cb7tuner.com staff.

3) No items may be sold in the Beginner forums. Any "for sale" threads will be deleted.

4) Temporarily banned members will be PERMANTLY banned if they are found posting on another account.

The rules can and will be added to. Any updates will be marked in the title.

The rules for the overall forum can be found here:

If you are going to change a head gasket you are going to need the repair Manuel you can get them at any autozone or autop parts store, those help out a lot trust me, but don't get the Chilton one it beats around the bush on these kind of things.

Get a manual for you car from there. It will provide you with the most comprehensive instructions possible... far better than any secondhand information from a fellow enthusiast, which while good-intentioned, may be flawed or conveyed improperly.

No leaking hose is going to cause you to burn coolant... the head gasket is almost certainly blown.

It IS a lot of work. That's why I suggest getting a manual, so you have all the correct specs at your fingertips. You don't have to worry about some random on the internet making a typo, or forgetting/misinterpreting something as you look from the screen to your car. You can put the manual right next to you, and have all the info you need right there.

OR you can replace your engine with a used one. Its easier, well for me. If you do replace your head gasket make sure you get your head/block machined too. Theres a high chance that your engine is warped.

Its a lot of work for some one thats never done it but for some one thats done a few then its easy work. Its not all that hard to do but just take your time. Heres a tip, pull the head and intake together. Thats what I do.

                Heres some pic to help.

Heres a basic job on my sedan. Im replacing the valves.

Heres my wagon. Im in the middle if a wire tuck and shave.

It's really just a matter of following instructions.
Nothing on a car is "hard" to do, as long as you have the right tools and the right set of instructions... and the sense to use both of them properly.

replacing the engine instead of doing the head gasket is a bit of a sretch dont you think? and your going to spend way more money in the process..just do the head gasket and save your money for a good engine build!

Beside your cylinder head, if rest of engine in good, working condition then I would just repair your existing engine. Especially, if you don't plan to keep car much longer. You should have a good idea on how long the engine was overheated, if you had coolant problems and how long on contaminated oil.

If you don't feel confident in engine condition and need car longer, then go with good used engine. However, you can easily spend more and take on more maintenance items that need to be done.

Anyhow, beware of replacing head gaskets on this Honda F22ax. They do not go bad without reason. Make sure you address the true cause of problem. Then, replace head gasket, recondition head and reinstall everything. I too agree on reconditioning the cylinder head while there, worth the extra $200-250 spent if it was not done. Should do the water pump & timing belt job too.

I have a question along the same lines. I am in middle of a f22a1 build. I had it bored to 86 mm and purchased a head gasket from bisimoto. When I went to install, the dowel pins did not fit with the gasket. I am using ARP studs but even with those, the gasket has a lot of play. Any advice?
