ANY BUYING/SELLING IN THIS FORUM WILL RESULT IN AN INSTANT BAN!

Read the rules: http://www.cb7tuner.com/vbb/showthread.php?t=43956

Myself, and the other mods have been very nice and lenient with the rules. We have been deleting threads, and giving out warnings. Some members didn't get the clue and re-posted over and over... Now ANY member buying or selling in this section will be banned... No IF's AND's or BUT's.

Beginner Forum Rules - EVERYBODY read! (old and new members alike!)

Beginners start here. Once you have 30 worthwhile posts (off topic doesn't count) you may post outside of the Beginner forums. Any "whoring" (posting simply to raise your post count) will return your count to 0, or result in a ban.

These are the rules. Read them. Live by them.

1) Absolutely NO flaming! "Flaming" is an outright attack on a member. ALL questions are encouraged to be asked here, no matter how basic. Members with over 30 posts will be subject to a ONE WEEK ban if caught flaming in this forum (and yes, moderators can read deleted posts). Members with under 30 posts will be subject to a ONE DAY ban.

2) Use appropriate language. Racial or sexual slurs will not be tolerated. A ban will be issued at the discretion of the cb7tuner.com staff.

3) No items may be sold in the Beginner forums. Any "for sale" threads will be deleted.

4) Temporarily banned members will be PERMANTLY banned if they are found posting on another account.

The rules can and will be added to. Any updates will be marked in the title.

The rules for the overall forum can be found here:

Read them. You will be expected to follow them.

    Cam seal surface destroyed

My friend was helping me replace a cam seal on my F22 when the worst case scenario happened and he accidentally damaged the surface. Unfortunately it's not the cam bearing side, so it's not replaceable. I put the cam seal in anyway but it's leaking like a mofo. I'm also in the middle of driving cross country now and it's stressing me out because I have to constantly watch the oil level and it smells like oil inside all the time. Is there any way to re-finish the surface or something? Or is my head pretty much trash now? I can't take a picture but it's basically like three big dings on the metal surface.

I'm on my way to Ohio and I'm going to live there. Currently in eastern Montana.

    Thanks for the help

I'm sure a machine shop could weld it up and remachine it. But you would have to take the head off and take it to them for that. You may come out cheaper by buying a spare head and just swapping it out. That will give you a chance to replace some gaskets and other things that you wouldn't necessarily have done anyway.

Hmm. I thought about it but isn't it bad to swap a head that hasn't been worn in with the cylinder block?

No. As long as the deck of the block has been checked for flatness then you shouldn't have a problem throwing a different head on there. Just make sure the head also has a flat surface and to use a new head gasket. Follow the proper head bolt loosening procedures when removing the head and installing it also.

Thanks man. I might dig into it once I get to Ohio.

On the side note, despite all the leaking the oil level has been exactly the same since I first left home, oddly enough. I've driven 1,000 miles so far too.

Are you 100% it's oil thats leaking and for sure that it's leaking from the cam seal area? I thought I had an oil leak once, ended up being dirty power steering fluid.

I don't have power steering. Also the area that tends to get oily behind the upper section of the engine block due to a bad cam seal is soaked, and when I clean it up it becomes soaked with oil the next day.
