    Fuel leak

I'm having an issue w/ gas fumes inside my 93 Lx coupe. The smell is really strong and I think I found an area where I think the leak is at. The problem is I have no idea how the gas is getting in. I took out the back seat (the bottom only ) out to see if it was the fuel pump. I cleaned the area really good and left the seat off to see if there was a leak. I did find an area where it was a bit damp and smelled like gas, but it's no where near the fuel pump. I'll take some pics when I get home but at this point I clueless as to where this leak could be. Anyone else having a similar issue?

Gas getting inside the car? do you see any leaks on the ground after full or wet spots looking underneath the tank?

By the way You can't get to the fuel pump from inside the car you have to drop the tank.

Thats interesting, the only way I would think gas could be in that general area inside the car is if it were somehow coming from where the gas float panel is. Like Sordz said, the gas pump can only be accessed by dropping the tank so I'm not sure if could be that. I would start by removing that panel and making sure everything is nice and tight inside, then go from there.

Sorry I thought it was the gas pump but I guess it's the gas float panel(sorry not a mechanic). Even so I dont think its from there. And no i don't have any gas leaks on the ground. I'll have pics later today.

Try looking in the engine bay, could be a bad fuel line.

Here's a couple of pics where I think the fuel leak is at. I removed the back seat and left it off

The two holes that I'm pointing at seem to be where the leak is at.

Everything in brown is from the leak
Here's a pic from the gas float panel, doesn't seem like it has any leaks

Anyone have any idea what the two holes are for on the second pic?

Looks like somebody drilled them holes for something, maybe a ground for an amp? If you look at the first pic there is another hole drilled to the left of the other 2 holes. I don't believe those are factory holes unfortunately. Whoever did it may have drilled too far and into the tank. I would drop the tank and check it out for sure.

^^yep no reason why gas should be leaking from there unless whoever drilled out tose holes also put a hole in the tank and even then i would assume there would be more residue on the tank itself when you look at it from underneath (have you done that?)

I would drop that tank to check it out. Prepare yourself to buy a new tank..... or at least jb weld the holes shut. I cant imagine them being very big...

Yea sounds like I'll have to drop the tank and check it out. Are there any write ups on this? JB weld might be an option but I don’t want to chance it, specially when it comes to a fuel leak. What do you guys think? I guess I won't know until I drop the tank.

Dropping the tank sounds like bitch at first but it isn't all that bad. Just jack up the entire back end, you'll see the tank is held in there by 2 straps going from front to back. Each end of each strap is held in by a bolt, what I did was removed just the 2 bolts that are closest to the rear of the car and left the other 2 alone. There are a couple of other random things you might need to loosen, once you get under there you will be able to see. The tank should just slide right out at that point. Just remember to drain the tank beforehand, there is a drain bolt that you can remove and place a clean bucket or something to catch the fuel. You might also want to open up the fuel cap to allow air so the gas drains properly.

I don't see any problem with JB welding the holes, depending on how small they are. I would assume they aren't that big, but you'll know better once the tank is out.
