ANY BUYING/SELLING IN THIS FORUM WILL RESULT IN AN INSTANT BAN!

Read the rules: http://www.cb7tuner.com/vbb/showthread.php?t=43956

Myself, and the other mods have been very nice and lenient with the rules. We have been deleting threads, and giving out warnings. Some members didn't get the clue and re-posted over and over... Now ANY member buying or selling in this section will be banned... No IF's AND's or BUT's.

Beginner Forum Rules - EVERYBODY read! (old and new members alike!)

Beginners start here. Once you have 30 worthwhile posts (off topic doesn't count) you may post outside of the Beginner forums. Any "whoring" (posting simply to raise your post count) will return your count to 0, or result in a ban.

These are the rules. Read them. Live by them.

1) Absolutely NO flaming! "Flaming" is an outright attack on a member. ALL questions are encouraged to be asked here, no matter how basic. Members with over 30 posts will be subject to a ONE WEEK ban if caught flaming in this forum (and yes, moderators can read deleted posts). Members with under 30 posts will be subject to a ONE DAY ban.

2) Use appropriate language. Racial or sexual slurs will not be tolerated. A ban will be issued at the discretion of the cb7tuner.com staff.

3) No items may be sold in the Beginner forums. Any "for sale" threads will be deleted.

4) Temporarily banned members will be PERMANTLY banned if they are found posting on another account.

The rules can and will be added to. Any updates will be marked in the title.

    Wierd smells after intake install

Hey guys this is my first post. I know the rules, before asking a dumb question make sure you search the forum first. Either I'm not wording it right or I'm just an idiot but I couldn't find anything related to this. Iput a short ram intake on my 1990 accord lx as my first mod. Prior to the install car ran like it just left showroom. Now, the car still runs fine. But now I get this very strong gas smell like I'm at a gas station and my exhaust is dripping clear fluid that smells like , u guessed it, gas. But there is also like a funky gas smell as well. It's a little more of a sweeter smell but still very pungent. Any help would be appreciated as this is my daily driver and if this is normal ok. If its not normal then I will revert back to the oem intake. Thanks guys!!

No, definitely not normal. If you smell fuel, you've got a problem, and you need to fix it ASAP.

Is the smell coming from the exhaust, or from the engine bay? If the latter, you might have knocked something loose while installing the intake. The fuel line passes right near the intake hose.

Well I checked everything and it all looks good. No leaks or bad smells coming from engine bay. Mainly exhaust. It was leaking some gas from the tailpipe when I first turned it on. Then I let it rest, turned it back on again and let it run for about 5 mins and nothing came out the exhaust. And the smell lessened. I don't know if maybe the car was reacting to more air flow and adjusting? Because things seem fine now just a slight pungent gas smell that wasn't there yesterday. Again the car is running, cranking, idling, and performing great as always just a nasty smell that was never there before. And the mysterious random gasy leak.

Maybe check the spark plug wires? Loose plug wire, no spark in that cylinder, unburned gasoline makes its way into the exhaust. That's the only thing I can think of right now.

just verifying, i've seen someone do this before... you did install the hose from the valve cover to the intake right? i believe it recirculates unburned fumes or something, my buddy did that and had a nasty smell. hooked it up properly and smell faded out.

So I double checked everything once again and everything is connected 100% perfect. Spark plug wires have 3000 miles on them and everything has been fine with those it was the first crank up right after the install that started everything. It still smells like gas but no more gas leaking. Still stinks though. I even took the pipe off and reconnected everything back to stock except for the filter. So now it's just filter ,heat shield connected to oem pipe connected correctly. Not sure what's happening but I think I might take it to the shop even though I don't have any performance issues. Better safe than sorry.

So the air fuel ratio changes dramatically with just a filter install requiring a reset? Is that a performance shop or Honda dealership?

Resetting the ECU is something easily done by yourself.

Pull the fuse for the ECU, wait about 20 seconds and then pop it back in.

I believe it is a 7? amp fuse in the driver side kick panel. There is a small door that you remove and it has the fuse diagram on the reverse side. Hope this helps.
