ANY BUYING/SELLING IN THIS FORUM WILL RESULT IN AN INSTANT BAN!

Read the rules: http://www.cb7tuner.com/vbb/showthread.php?t=43956

Myself, and the other mods have been very nice and lenient with the rules. We have been deleting threads, and giving out warnings. Some members didn't get the clue and re-posted over and over... Now ANY member buying or selling in this section will be banned... No IF's AND's or BUT's.

Beginner Forum Rules - EVERYBODY read! (old and new members alike!)

Beginners start here. Once you have 30 worthwhile posts (off topic doesn't count) you may post outside of the Beginner forums. Any "whoring" (posting simply to raise your post count) will return your count to 0, or result in a ban.

These are the rules. Read them. Live by them.

1) Absolutely NO flaming! "Flaming" is an outright attack on a member. ALL questions are encouraged to be asked here, no matter how basic. Members with over 30 posts will be subject to a ONE WEEK ban if caught flaming in this forum (and yes, moderators can read deleted posts). Members with under 30 posts will be subject to a ONE DAY ban.

2) Use appropriate language. Racial or sexual slurs will not be tolerated. A ban will be issued at the discretion of the cb7tuner.com staff.

3) No items may be sold in the Beginner forums. Any "for sale" threads will be deleted.

4) Temporarily banned members will be PERMANTLY banned if they are found posting on another account.

The rules can and will be added to. Any updates will be marked in the title.

The rules for the overall forum can be found here:

    Speedo Problems

On thursday I had my speedo stopped working ..I got up on Friday and did some searching on the topic and found out a lot about the VSS.After I did some reading I attempted to fix it . After inspection I noticed i had a wire that was exposed and i taped it up .( one of the 3 that plugs into the VSS connector ).I drove the cb around and all was good . Today I went to get my daughters birthday cake and the speedo wasn't working ..As I approached the store to get the cake the speedo came on . After going in and getting the cake I returned to the car and the speedo was working . Not wanting to deal with the B.S. I changed the VSS out with a different one I had on a spare trans I have..Guess what ,,, It still don't work . Any thoughts guys and gals ?

I replace the part that had the connector on it . Along with the needle under it . Is that the whole thing ?

You might need to look into it a little bit more, thats just the sensor.

        Read this

Check all the wiring again, and follow the instructions on that website. Worst case you might have to get another VSS body...

PS. be careful with that 10mm bolt. don't tighten it too much.

Is this it or do I need to change the part that ^ bolts to . It has 2 hoses and its bolted on from the bottom .

          B)

          A or B is the VSS ?

Ok, I did the homework for you guys, if you follow these instructions you should have a working VSS in no time.

              I hope this helps.

Thanks DannyD. Although I did read about that in the first link you sent and I found that post before you linked it in this thread. The pic I posted A or B was the problem I'm having..During my study I can't clearly make out if the A. part is the VSS or B is part of the VSS or if its the steering speed sensor Or that possibly the whole unit needs replacing A. and B.

Are you not throwing CEL 17? When my VSS went, I threw the code.

You said the wire was exposed and you taped it. Have you tried doing a continuity test of the VSS wires from the VSS plug on the harness side to the main plugs on the shock tower. But I am more leaning like your actual speedo might be on the fritz if you are not throwing a CEL 17.

Hey Stretch, how did you end up resolving the intermittent speedo ?
..or at least I'm assuming you resolved it, since you haven't posted back on this thread here in a few months.

I'm having the same issue and compiling as much data as possible before I tackle it. Can't stand running into "unknowns"..

I too would like to know what the outcome of this was, as I am having the same problem.
