    Power steering out

After i got a used transmission swapped in (unkown tranny into an automatic f22), the power steering went out. not intermittent or squishy at times, jsut flat out no power steering whatsoever at anytime.

i brought it up to the crappy mechanic, he stated the obvious, that power steering has nothing to do with the tranny. i said yes, i know this, what happened? he has no idea.

ive checked all my connecters and plugs, the fluid is still just fine and the pump runs great all the time, doesn't even whine.

so is there anything i could be missing? what else could cause this crap..

anything electrical i may be missing? some kinda ecu or fuse trick? this is killing me

I haven't had PS in my car for years now, so I'm a bit rusty... but is our PS system reliant on the VSS in any way? If so, the tranny installation COULD have affected the PS. Fortunately, that would also be a fairly easy thing to fix!

Someone will certainly know more about it than I do, but that's the only reason I could think of that happening. Other than that, internal pump failure is the most logical explanation (but the PS pump rarely just quits without showing any indication of eminent failure, though...)

well that could make tons of sense, my speedometer went out along with all of this, but i just chalked it up to a bad vss with the new-old tranny. lol.

but if i take out two birds with one stone (one smal electrical plug with two bolts), i would be pretty happy.

been revamping the cb and getting her more seller-friendly, i think im looking into a 6th gen accord. but for most buyers (non tuner) they would see no PS and no way of knowing how fast they're going a problem when going to buy it, esp with 240k on it.

*offtopic, got pulled over on the freeway a few months back, the officer says "do you know how fast you were going?"

i honestly just told him "not a clue"

Powersteering does have alot to do with the transmission, CB7s have speed sensitive PS. So depending on the speed, the amount off assist can be reduced or added, or even completely bypassed.
        wat?

Yeah, if the VSS is shot, then that would explain it. And your mechanic IS a moron! (did he do the swap, or did you do it, and just go to him for advice on this issue?)

So yeah, C91BLX7 confirms what I was saying, and the fact that your VSS is known to be bad (or improperly hooked up) makes it even more likely. Fix the VSS, and you'll very likely fix a number of annoying problems!

it is naturally easier to turn at high speeds, but i can feel the complete lack of power steering, just the speed helping me. and at low speeds or stopped its obvious there's no assist.

so if its not reading any speed wouldnt there be more assist? theoretical... idk.. im not sure the logistics of the cb's tranny to power steering mumbo jumbo..

oh, he isn't my mechanic. thankfully.

i relocated to Carolina, but before moving from Ohio i needed just any transmission but my own.

my reverse and overdrive were shot, and i couldn't find anyone on the site to give me a hand...didn't wanna tackle it all the way on my own

so there was a "friend of a friend" who wanted 500 bucks parts and labor to drop this tranny in.. so it was a deal, but you get what you pay for lol. this guy was a total jackass

had my car forever, i got it back with non-honda atf in it. it pissed everywhere within a few days

my drain plug was loose as hell..i called to bitch him out he said "oh, you got a hater. i didnt leave that loose"

yeah, someone got a low profile jack to get under a lowered car, got it off the ground without the alarm going off, and only loosened my drain plug to the tranny. like i said, he is a grade A jackass.

If it's not reading any speed, it could "believe" that the engine isn't even running. You have no PS when the key is turned to the II position (engine off, but power to everything else.)

I'm really just guessing, but it seems logical!
You know the VSS has an issue... so check the hookup first, then replace the sensor if all seems to be hooked up properly. The guy that did the trans swap may not have plugged it in properly (a Honda master-tech forgot to plug my Fit's VSS back in when he did my clutch last summer... it ALSO affected my PS, but that was the opposite result... always on FULL power. Terrifying at speed!)
In the worst case, you'll have a working speedometer again, and we'll still have a PS problem to figure out! You have nothing to lose.

thanks for all the info, im looking into getting a vss off a f/s thread, if not i'll get a new one.

**i must add that im doubting getting a newer accord only for the fact that i have never found another site for a specific generation car with this kind of support and numbers.

i only paid like 15 bucks for a VSS off of ebay. I wouldn't trust a junk yard one unless it came from a car that was recently wrecked in the rear and was known to be working before hand.

**You're in luck, there's a guy giving one away in the classifieds right now.
