ANY BUYING/SELLING IN THIS FORUM WILL RESULT IN AN INSTANT BAN!

Read the rules: http://www.cb7tuner.com/vbb/showthread.php?t=43956

Myself, and the other mods have been very nice and lenient with the rules. We have been deleting threads, and giving out warnings. Some members didn't get the clue and re-posted over and over... Now ANY member buying or selling in this section will be banned... No IF's AND's or BUT's.

Beginner Forum Rules - EVERYBODY read! (old and new members alike!)

Beginners start here. Once you have 30 worthwhile posts (off topic doesn't count) you may post outside of the Beginner forums. Any "whoring" (posting simply to raise your post count) will return your count to 0, or result in a ban.

These are the rules. Read them. Live by them.

1) Absolutely NO flaming! "Flaming" is an outright attack on a member. ALL questions are encouraged to be asked here, no matter how basic. Members with over 30 posts will be subject to a ONE WEEK ban if caught flaming in this forum (and yes, moderators can read deleted posts). Members with under 30 posts will be subject to a ONE DAY ban.

2) Use appropriate language. Racial or sexual slurs will not be tolerated. A ban will be issued at the discretion of the cb7tuner.com staff.

3) No items may be sold in the Beginner forums. Any "for sale" threads will be deleted.

4) Temporarily banned members will be PERMANTLY banned if they are found posting on another account.

The rules can and will be added to. Any updates will be marked in the title.

The rules for the overall forum can be found here:

bad clunking noise from front pass. side

yesterday on the way to work i realized about 40mph the steering wheel is "ticking"or clicking and also felt it in the gas pedal. it's going like du du du du du du constant, light but very noticable and its never shaken before. it very bad when the wheel turns right "toward pass. side". even in a straight line, i turn the wheel a tad bit and du du du du du again. i have new tie rods so i dont think thats it. when the car is off, and i turn the wheel left and right it clunks like the rack and pinion is bad, but i'm sure this problem is coming from the pass. side.
i'm pretty sure my axle is bad, "moves in and out" but barely. and lower balljoints are shot. any help would be greatly appreciated. thanks.

    Cv axle.
Look and see if the boots are torn. gram them and try to shack them. If they are bad with will move and clunk.

they're not torn but there looks to be ALOT of grease around where the axle meets the tranny. and it does clunk, but only maybe a 1/2 in. i guess i'll go ahead and change both and see if thats it.
Also,to add, when i hit RR track my car sways bad like losing control, one time as i was coming around a curve, i hit the tracks and my rear end came out sideways, but i felt the whole car just lose traction. i have new tires. i think its a ball joint problem. every single one looks like it should be changed.

ALWAYS fix what you know for sure is wrong before trying to diagnose any further. And if you know your ball joints are shot, I wouldn't even drive the car until you replace them! If one of those gives out, you will crash.

Axles, ball joints, rack, and tires. Those are the things to look at first. Bad alignment or damaged tires (including internal damage) can cause symptoms like you've described.
Also, don't just assume that because your tie rod ends are new that they can't fail! New parts can be faulty.

i actually replaced the tie rods on friday when it all started. as far as the ball joints, i dont KNOW if they are shot, i say this because the rubber covers are ripped open from dryrotting, it looks like. they are flattened and just look BAD. i'll do the ball joints tomorrow, hopefully. then the axle, then uca's. i found wagon knuckles at the junkyard and may pick them up. any way to check if the hub is good if the knuckes are already off the car?

The second the ball joint boot rips, that ball joint is shot.

To check the hub/bearing off the car, see if it spins freely. The only easy way to check is when it's still ON the car, with a wheel/tire attached.
I don't believe you need the entire knuckle. Just the brake caliper bracket (and maybe the caliper), and then the larger wagon rotors (which should be new anyway.)
Regardless, fix your current problem before thinking about upgrades.

did you change Inner/Outer Tie Rods or just the Outer? i know if you turn the wheel left to right & hear a clunk, chances are it's the Inner Tie Rod(s). & an easy way to tell if its a ball joint, get the vehicle off the ground & try to move the wheel at top & bottom (hands at 12 & 6, like a clock) if there is movement/play you should then be able to see if its the top or bottom Ball Joint or both... i had a weird creaking sound (when taking off, shifting gears & while turning) coming from my CB7 last week, ended up being loose bolts on Rear Engine Mount!..

                  I only changed the outer

i'm waiting to get them done at a shop, i have them tho.
i'm going to get the lower ball joint and that done this week .
Also, my tranny mount is shot as well. firestone said that.

                  thanks for all the help
