ANY BUYING/SELLING IN THIS FORUM WILL RESULT IN AN INSTANT BAN!

Read the rules: http://www.cb7tuner.com/vbb/showthread.php?t=43956

Myself, and the other mods have been very nice and lenient with the rules. We have been deleting threads, and giving out warnings. Some members didn't get the clue and re-posted over and over... Now ANY member buying or selling in this section will be banned... No IF's AND's or BUT's.

Beginner Forum Rules - EVERYBODY read! (old and new members alike!)

Beginners start here. Once you have 30 worthwhile posts (off topic doesn't count) you may post outside of the Beginner forums. Any "whoring" (posting simply to raise your post count) will return your count to 0, or result in a ban.

These are the rules. Read them. Live by them.

1) Absolutely NO flaming! "Flaming" is an outright attack on a member. ALL questions are encouraged to be asked here, no matter how basic. Members with over 30 posts will be subject to a ONE WEEK ban if caught flaming in this forum (and yes, moderators can read deleted posts). Members with under 30 posts will be subject to a ONE DAY ban.

2) Use appropriate language. Racial or sexual slurs will not be tolerated. A ban will be issued at the discretion of the cb7tuner.com staff.

3) No items may be sold in the Beginner forums. Any "for sale" threads will be deleted.

4) Temporarily banned members will be PERMANTLY banned if they are found posting on another account.

    Engine bay clean up

I want to clean up a much as the clutter in my engine as possible. I hate seeing all the wires and random stuff going everywhere especially when I'm new to fixing up cars. I don't kno too much about what does what and what goes where. How can I cut down on the wires and make a cleaner appearance? Is it possible to replace everything with new parts? Is there anything I don't technically need in there that I can remove and help with the clutteredness?

    Thanks

Cuz my main plan is to have as much a possible replaced with new oem/performance parts as possible for the most extended life of my car.
I want to focus user the hood before I focus on appearance.

Taking out the cruise control helps unless you use it on a daily bases.

Do a search for "DIY wire tuck" there's a pretty decent write-up about it

Sure some specialty shops will do it. But it will cost more money than that car is worth. If you're new to cars, I suggest you spend time learning about the car instead of taking it down to nothing. Unless something needs to be replaced from a maintenance perspective then it's best left alone until you know what you are doing.

Once you have a better grasp on things, then yes, there are things that can be easily removed. It's best when coupled with a swap that utilizes a P06/P28/P72 ECU(or just a P06 on an F22) that doesn't look for an EGR or charcoal canister. Those things can be ditched easily aside from your current ECU throwing a fit.

A wire tuck is easy to do, with time and patience. However, they seem to cause more trouble than they're worth.

Get an aftermarket intake to clean up that stock piping. Get a ceramic coated aftermarket header (DC Sports makes affordable quality headers... not like the cheap crap you'll find for $50 on ebay) to clean up the ugly exhaust manifold. If you can live without power steering, yank that (do some reading on how to do that properly, so you don't destroy your rack.) If you can live without AC, yank that (that'll shed a good amount of weight as well, if you pull everything related to the system.)

The BEST thing you could do is to go to www.helminc.com and get a manual for your car. Then dive into your engine bay. If you see something ugly, look it up in the book to see what it is, and determine if you need it. If you can do without it, or safely relocate it, then do so. If you can't remove or relocate it, maybe you can somehow make it more attractive (polishing, painting, or just cleaning can do a lot.)
You'll make your engine bay look better, and you'll be learning a lot in the process. Much better than random internet kids saying "pull that thing out right there!"

In case Deev tickled your pickle talking about polishing then here is a great member's ride thread to check out. This guy is a moderator here and has basically set the standard for cleanliness for these cars.

So clean you can not only eat off of any part of his car... you can often use any part as a shaving mirror!

I would imagine if you want OEM part replacements then, there's no such thing as performance. You have to go after market for that. I would learn about the car first before doing this. The wire tuck is optional. I tried to keep my car clean but I have to park outside with no roof over it. So every night, dirt hugs it. Next early morning, the mist wet it then dirt stick to it. Tough to get it clean, even tougher to keep it clean for me. I thought about a cover but dude, the hassle of taking it off each day, makes it no joy.

Ya I've had my car for a year now and I would consider myself new. Obtaining a manual I feel would be very helpfull, thanks for the tip.

Ya as far as oem and performance I want it to be strong and last another 10 years, I want power but I don't intend to race it right now, of you get where coming from. And ya I have my car in the driveway every night. I actually noticed a lot of watermarks from the sprinkles constantly hitting my car every morning, pretty frustrating

Ya I figured it would cost a lot considering 75% of the price of anything at shopps is labor :/

It's not so hard doing it yourself. Plan it out, give yourself plenty of time for the first time. It comes easier the 2nd time around. Check your ball joints and suspension boots, if they don't look good or worn out but not yet torn, I would replace them as if they break and grease comes out, you have to replace the whole joint.
                              Enjoy the car.
