ANY BUYING/SELLING IN THIS FORUM WILL RESULT IN AN INSTANT BAN!

Read the rules: http://www.cb7tuner.com/vbb/showthread.php?t=43956

Myself, and the other mods have been very nice and lenient with the rules. We have been deleting threads, and giving out warnings. Some members didn't get the clue and re-posted over and over... Now ANY member buying or selling in this section will be banned... No IF's AND's or BUT's.

Beginner Forum Rules - EVERYBODY read! (old and new members alike!)

Beginners start here. Once you have 30 worthwhile posts (off topic doesn't count) you may post outside of the Beginner forums. Any "whoring" (posting simply to raise your post count) will return your count to 0, or result in a ban.

These are the rules. Read them. Live by them.

1) Absolutely NO flaming! "Flaming" is an outright attack on a member. ALL questions are encouraged to be asked here, no matter how basic. Members with over 30 posts will be subject to a ONE WEEK ban if caught flaming in this forum (and yes, moderators can read deleted posts). Members with under 30 posts will be subject to a ONE DAY ban.

2) Use appropriate language. Racial or sexual slurs will not be tolerated. A ban will be issued at the discretion of the cb7tuner.com staff.

3) No items may be sold in the Beginner forums. Any "for sale" threads will be deleted.

4) Temporarily banned members will be PERMANTLY banned if they are found posting on another account.

The rules can and will be added to. Any updates will be marked in the title.

The rules for the overall forum can be found here:

    thermostat direction question

im tired of waiting 7 minutes for my car to warm up so im gonna replace the thermostat tomorrow but i need help with what direction the thermodtat should be facing.

the bigger disc lookin side should be facing into the engine or coming out of the engine.

i know the pin has to be facing up but what dirrection should the side of the pin be facing.

im pretty sure its not good to put it backwards.

    thanks

The spring facing into the block, with the metal nipple facing outwards . Mine takes ten minutes to reach operating temp, lucky you.

I thought the thermostat slips into the seal. The little jiggler goes to the top. But if you got the el cheapo gasket, it might just be a flat piece of rubber

no problem, double check it. My felpro has 2 flat parts and the stat slips up in there just like in the pic, the rubber isnt just balancing on the stat its enveloping the outer edge.

make sure you go to Honda and get a thermostat. They're only 24 bucks and come with a gasket; a comparable Autozone T-stat is about 15 bucks then you need to buy the gasket separately, so its really not worth it, especially for the quality of the gasket and T-stat you get.

May i ask what brand thermostat and gasket you used? I always thought ten minute warmups were normal lol. I barely found out how abnormal it is .

yeah for the longest time, my DD 90' CB7 would stay cold or just above the C line, even when driving on the highway for about 20 min. So I knew something was wrong, the T-stat was stuck open...cool fail safe Honda builds into their T-stats so your car won't overheat if it fails

That's exactly what oe spec is rated at. Begins to open at 170, fully open at 195.
I'm thinking i'm going with a Gates Racing T-stat. I've used parts from them and their quality is pretty good.
