ANY BUYING/SELLING IN THIS FORUM WILL RESULT IN AN INSTANT BAN!

Read the rules: http://www.cb7tuner.com/vbb/showthread.php?t=43956

Myself, and the other mods have been very nice and lenient with the rules. We have been deleting threads, and giving out warnings. Some members didn't get the clue and re-posted over and over... Now ANY member buying or selling in this section will be banned... No IF's AND's or BUT's.

Beginner Forum Rules - EVERYBODY read! (old and new members alike!)

Beginners start here. Once you have 30 worthwhile posts (off topic doesn't count) you may post outside of the Beginner forums. Any "whoring" (posting simply to raise your post count) will return your count to 0, or result in a ban.

These are the rules. Read them. Live by them.

1) Absolutely NO flaming! "Flaming" is an outright attack on a member. ALL questions are encouraged to be asked here, no matter how basic. Members with over 30 posts will be subject to a ONE WEEK ban if caught flaming in this forum (and yes, moderators can read deleted posts). Members with under 30 posts will be subject to a ONE DAY ban.

2) Use appropriate language. Racial or sexual slurs will not be tolerated. A ban will be issued at the discretion of the cb7tuner.com staff.

3) No items may be sold in the Beginner forums. Any "for sale" threads will be deleted.

4) Temporarily banned members will be PERMANTLY banned if they are found posting on another account.

The rules can and will be added to. Any updates will be marked in the title.

The rules for the overall forum can be found here:

    distributor cap leak

So I went to take my distributor cap off today to paint it to match my engine bay scheme and I notice it was leaking. My brother said something about an o ring kit? What should I replace to fix this?

Is there a fine reddish dust under the cap? It sort of looks like it in the photo, but I can't tell. If so, that's a sign that the distributor is about to die on you.

Is that called a distributor o ring kit? I ordered that at autozone since my brother said that's what it was. Plus it was only $1.99 so I went ahead with that. I can get a refund if I ordered the wrong thing.

I saw zero red dust. I cleaned it off and examined it carefully so I could answer any questions you guys might have about it. Only a little white dust underneath where the wires connect.

I took another look at that photo - I think I was just seeing the reflection of your hand in the plastic. So never mind that.

There are two places that might be leaking - the o-ring (which seals the distributor to the cylinder head) and the inner seal (inside the distributor). Can you tell if the oil is coming from inside the distributor, or if it's coming from the outside and running down onto the cap? A photo of the distributor from below might help.

Man, I tried, but I don't know if this photo is gonna help as its probably mostly dried by now. EDIT: if it helps, it was mostly wet underneath especially by the bottom screw of the cap

You don't need the inner seal unless there is oil leaking into the dizzy from the input shaft. From the pics your o ring is shot. This is what you need.

Thanks for answering. I see like three wires there unknown to me. I hope those wires have circuit protections.

LMAO. That's what my wife said. You and your GF must have been together for a long time. This happens. You need to find new sparks. Get her to be interested in cars.
