ANY BUYING/SELLING IN THIS FORUM WILL RESULT IN AN INSTANT BAN!

Read the rules: http://www.cb7tuner.com/vbb/showthread.php?t=43956

Myself, and the other mods have been very nice and lenient with the rules. We have been deleting threads, and giving out warnings. Some members didn't get the clue and re-posted over and over... Now ANY member buying or selling in this section will be banned... No IF's AND's or BUT's.

Beginner Forum Rules - EVERYBODY read! (old and new members alike!)

Beginners start here. Once you have 30 worthwhile posts (off topic doesn't count) you may post outside of the Beginner forums. Any "whoring" (posting simply to raise your post count) will return your count to 0, or result in a ban.

These are the rules. Read them. Live by them.

1) Absolutely NO flaming! "Flaming" is an outright attack on a member. ALL questions are encouraged to be asked here, no matter how basic. Members with over 30 posts will be subject to a ONE WEEK ban if caught flaming in this forum (and yes, moderators can read deleted posts). Members with under 30 posts will be subject to a ONE DAY ban.

2) Use appropriate language. Racial or sexual slurs will not be tolerated. A ban will be issued at the discretion of the cb7tuner.com staff.

3) No items may be sold in the Beginner forums. Any "for sale" threads will be deleted.

4) Temporarily banned members will be PERMANTLY banned if they are found posting on another account.

The rules can and will be added to. Any updates will be marked in the title.

The rules for the overall forum can be found here:

Read them. You will be expected to follow them.

    a/c makes her run, wierd..

hard to explain how the a/c running changes the way my car runs.

we drove 280 miles one direction with no a/c on @ 80mph and got about 27mpg and had plentiful power going up grades through the passes without downshifting.

we drove 280 miles in the opposite direction with the a/c on @ 80mph, and got about 32 mpg, but she could barely hold 70 up the same grades, in 4th.

not sure what to make of it. when i hit the button to turn it on, the engine actually hesitates, and kind of bogs down, almost like im driving while riding the brakes. and every time the clutch engages you can feel it lurch. i know the previous owner did not convert it to 154a, so i dont know the last time the system was lubricated, or if r14 even carried system lubricant like 154a does. i'm about ready to have the system converted, but before i do, i'm trying to understand why my MPG's went up. the a/c even running on r14 still blows ice cold, so i really dont want to bother with the conversion.

any input would be, well, great.

I can explain the reason it bogs down, when you turn on the a/c it takes more power off the motor to run the compressor Hence slowing it down.

The only reason i can think of is if your windows were down and it put a drag on your car.

The a/c on didn't drag it as much.

I remember reading that in the fuel efficiancy compliation i believe.

windows were up in both directions. i know the a/c puts an added pull on the engine, this is my 5th cb with a/c, and 19th car total with a/c, this is the only one that has been so noticable when the clutch is actuated. and the only one that made a serious influence on the gas mileage, and in the wrong direction

maybe you were drafting an Escalade? I gained about 5mpg by drafting cars on the interstate even with the AC on. Overcoming aero drag is really your biggest obstacle when trying to attain better MPG.

is it possible the pump needs lubricated (or even can be), so its not as much of a drag on the motor?
