ANY BUYING/SELLING IN THIS FORUM WILL RESULT IN AN INSTANT BAN!

Read the rules: http://www.cb7tuner.com/vbb/showthread.php?t=43956

Myself, and the other mods have been very nice and lenient with the rules. We have been deleting threads, and giving out warnings. Some members didn't get the clue and re-posted over and over... Now ANY member buying or selling in this section will be banned... No IF's AND's or BUT's.

Beginner Forum Rules - EVERYBODY read! (old and new members alike!)

Beginners start here. Once you have 30 worthwhile posts (off topic doesn't count) you may post outside of the Beginner forums. Any "whoring" (posting simply to raise your post count) will return your count to 0, or result in a ban.

These are the rules. Read them. Live by them.

1) Absolutely NO flaming! "Flaming" is an outright attack on a member. ALL questions are encouraged to be asked here, no matter how basic. Members with over 30 posts will be subject to a ONE WEEK ban if caught flaming in this forum (and yes, moderators can read deleted posts). Members with under 30 posts will be subject to a ONE DAY ban.

2) Use appropriate language. Racial or sexual slurs will not be tolerated. A ban will be issued at the discretion of the cb7tuner.com staff.

3) No items may be sold in the Beginner forums. Any "for sale" threads will be deleted.

4) Temporarily banned members will be PERMANTLY banned if they are found posting on another account.

The rules can and will be added to. Any updates will be marked in the title.

The rules for the overall forum can be found here:

Read them. You will be expected to follow them.

    loud fuel pump

I think my fuel pump is going because it is loud

When i have plenty of gas in the tank i can hear a high pich whine from outside the car. When im quite low on fuel i can hear a whine from inside the car but at a lower pitch. Is this normal?

Not normal at all. You may be right, the pump may be failing. Have you listened closer to the pump to be sure that it's where the whine is coming from?

For the time being, I wouldn't let the tank get low. The in-tank fuel pump is cooled by the fuel, so letting the fuel level get low will only make that pump heat up, causing it to fail even faster. (that advice should be followed at all times, but when the pump is likely on the way out, it's even more important.)

I wouldn't trust one from a salvage yard to last any longer than yours. I mean, you COULD, and you may be fine for a long time... but the amount of work needed to drop the tank and replace a fuel filter would be far too much to justify doing it for a used pump. That's how I feel, anyway. If saving a few bucks is worth the risk of having to yank it all apart again in the near future, then it's an option.
I'm sure there are ways to rebuild the pump, but I wouldn't know how. I've never heard of anyone doing it on the forum here.

Your best bet is to just buy new. New pumps on RockAuto.com range from $26 to $230.
I'd suggest getting somewhere in the middle.

Yea i was looking at one on rockauto for about $30. Me being a broke college student i always have to go for the cheaper option.

I might replace it when it gets cooler and see if i can overhaul the one i have first. If it can be dont ill post a diyI have never ordered anything from rock auto before. If you feel like looking up the fuel pump list on there for my cb let me know the cheapest one you recommend. They dont sell "crap" do they?

It'll be more cost effective to have new one installed than have your old one overhauled, even if some one is willing to overhaul it.

If there's overhaul kit available and doing it yourself would be another story.

I replaced my Civic's FP with OE replacement from AZ last year. It was messy stinky job. I don't feel like doing it again. But my LX's FP is original and will go out sooner than I think.

You want take out the tank completely. And you want remove all of crud and rust by blowing air into it. I used leaf blower for that job. You, not do this job, you may regret it later.
