ANY BUYING/SELLING IN THIS FORUM WILL RESULT IN AN INSTANT BAN!

Read the rules: http://www.cb7tuner.com/vbb/showthread.php?t=43956

Myself, and the other mods have been very nice and lenient with the rules. We have been deleting threads, and giving out warnings. Some members didn't get the clue and re-posted over and over... Now ANY member buying or selling in this section will be banned... No IF's AND's or BUT's.

Beginner Forum Rules - EVERYBODY read! (old and new members alike!)

Beginners start here. Once you have 30 worthwhile posts (off topic doesn't count) you may post outside of the Beginner forums. Any "whoring" (posting simply to raise your post count) will return your count to 0, or result in a ban.

These are the rules. Read them. Live by them.

1) Absolutely NO flaming! "Flaming" is an outright attack on a member. ALL questions are encouraged to be asked here, no matter how basic. Members with over 30 posts will be subject to a ONE WEEK ban if caught flaming in this forum (and yes, moderators can read deleted posts). Members with under 30 posts will be subject to a ONE DAY ban.

2) Use appropriate language. Racial or sexual slurs will not be tolerated. A ban will be issued at the discretion of the cb7tuner.com staff.

3) No items may be sold in the Beginner forums. Any "for sale" threads will be deleted.

4) Temporarily banned members will be PERMANTLY banned if they are found posting on another account.

The rules can and will be added to. Any updates will be marked in the title.

The rules for the overall forum can be found here:

Read them. You will be expected to follow them.

Sport light staying on, tranny in limp mode

1991 Accord Wagon LX, 232k miles

I let it set for about 3 weeks(bad idea, something always comes up when it isn't driven regularly), turn it on and the sport light stays on. Tranny is in limp mode, so I figure it's the TCU- right? Wrong.

Put in a rebuilt TCU from a reputable auto computer company- nothing changes.

Bring it to a mechanic, he finds a short in the gauge cluster- swaps out a working used one, problem solved.

It drove fine all the way home last night, but get in the car this morning and the sport light is back on. He's looking at it again now but I'm wondering if anyone here had any ideas?

You can pull codes from the TCU just like the ECU if you didn't know. Go to the link below and read a little on how to pull the codes.

*Poop, just reread that your mechanic has the car.

The S light is showing an error code. People always seem to replace the TCU when this happens, when it is nothing more than a sign that the TCU is working correctly, and reporting faulty components! You're killing the messenger, my friend!

Hopefully the mechanic knows how to pull the codes. If not... find another mechanic!
We also have a thread showing you exactly what to do in the "read here first" sticky at the top of this section (that clearly nobody looks at... old and new members alike.)

I had a similar problem with my 91EX auto... I bought the car from a transmission shop, it was in for service but the owner did not have the funds to fix it. So I bought the car along with a 'good' transmission and put it in myself. It would run thru all the gears when it was warming up, but after it reached operating temperature she would go into limp mode.
I replaced EVERYTHING I possibly could. TCU, Shift solenoids, speedometer sending unit, both speed sensors and fluid of course.

        ... all to no avail.

Finally I broke down and purchased another tranny. Slapped it in and everything works like new.
I was in denial about the tranny from the transmission shop being bad. I really felt like I could trust the guys there.
It cost me a lot of money to do all the troubleshooting and replacing sensors and whatnot. I almost gave up when I ran out of funds the first time.

I am not suggesting that you should just buy a new tranny, just wanted to share my experience. Have the shop pressure test it and it will give you a little insight as to what you should do next.

        Good luck!

The transmission itself has no parts that report to the TCU, so replacing the transmission itself shouldn't be a fix for a TCU error code.
