    H22A1 New Dizzy. Won't Fire.

Okay, so I'll try to explain my situation guys. I had to put the H in the garage because I started throwing CEL 4 (CPS) & I didn't wanna run the risk of destroying my motor.

After a bit of research on where the CPS sensor is located, i found out its inside the dizzy & that it isnt a simple fix like other sensors. so I ordered a new dizzy & it got it today.

I have an msd blaster coil so it's an external setup and I had to splice the two wires to run them to the coil, etc. After I re installed the dizzy and plugged the spark plugs in I tried firing her up!
    ...
    ...
But to no avail.. All she wants to do is turn over.

My first thought is that, since I put my old cap on my new dizzy that it isn't making a proper, clean connection.

So tomorrow I plan on taking the new cap, drilling a hole through it, and using it instead.

Also, I did replace the IAT sensor as well and still throw the code.. And yes, it did work before out of another Honda.

Any other suggestions make all the difference.

Check if you have spark, don't just assume. I had a similar issue and it turned out that my fairly new distributor was bad.

Already planned on doing that with a meter tomorrow before swapping them.

assuming the wires are all installed correctly make sure the part that goes into the cam isnt 180 degrees off. I did that once and it would only turn over no start.

Honestly, I'd just put it all back to stock. That MSD coil is doing nothing for you, as the stock ignition system is perfectly capable of handling even fairly significant upgrades.
Many people seem to have issues when they've messed with an aftermarket ignition system, especially when converting from internal coil to external coil.

My thought is... remove as many variables as possible. If that alone doesn't fix the problem, then you have far less to take into consideration as you continue to troubleshoot.

Also, don't discount the possibility that the new dizzy could be bad. That happens occasionally, and I've watched people pull their hair out trying to diagnose a problem, refusing to admit that their brand new part is the likely culprit.

Well my question is this.. Are the external & internal wire colors the same? Because basically what I did was splice external wiring and extend it to stretch to the coil. So I didn't make swap internal to external.

It was already external, my new one that is.

Ah, so you got a regular H22A1 dizzy, then?

I'm not sure about the wire colors. You could probably find a picture of the dizzy and coil that would show you how everything goes. I'm still running my JDM internal coil dizzy. Works like a charm.

I've been looking and can't find any. Tomorrow I'm gonna see if the dizzy is getting spark & then go from there. Although I have more the enough reason to believe it may be. And that possibly the newer rotor isn't reaching the older worn out pins on the old cap. It's what happened to me before. The older dizzy started the CEL 4 issue but still ran. Now new dizzy has no spark and code is still thrown.

Now the first question I should have asked is has it ever run? Did it run after the coil re-wiring? You don't need a meter to check for spark. Pull the coil wire from the distributor and hold it close (about 1/4") to the engine block and crank the engine. If you have spark, it will be very apparent. If you have no spark, check your coil wiring first, then the distributor.

It's ran. It ran until this new dizzy & the coil rewiring. Thank you for your input. I will definitely try that & also take a picture tomorrow of inside the dizzy to show which wires i spliced.

                      Newest update: 12-14-12:
                      Installed new distributor
Re-routed the wires needed for an msd coil
Car fires but still throws CEL code: (4)

Lol do you mean the clip connectors that the ignitor connects to within the dizzy?
And Colton, are you suggesting I take the green wire within the dizzy that's connected to my negative side of my msd coil & just wire it straight to the green wire from the f22 harness? Btw yes, I kept my f22 harness and modified it to work with the h22.
