ANY BUYING/SELLING IN THIS FORUM WILL RESULT IN AN INSTANT BAN!

Read the rules: http://www.cb7tuner.com/vbb/showthread.php?t=43956

Myself, and the other mods have been very nice and lenient with the rules. We have been deleting threads, and giving out warnings. Some members didn't get the clue and re-posted over and over... Now ANY member buying or selling in this section will be banned... No IF's AND's or BUT's.

Beginner Forum Rules - EVERYBODY read! (old and new members alike!)

Beginners start here. Once you have 30 worthwhile posts (off topic doesn't count) you may post outside of the Beginner forums. Any "whoring" (posting simply to raise your post count) will return your count to 0, or result in a ban.

These are the rules. Read them. Live by them.

1) Absolutely NO flaming! "Flaming" is an outright attack on a member. ALL questions are encouraged to be asked here, no matter how basic. Members with over 30 posts will be subject to a ONE WEEK ban if caught flaming in this forum (and yes, moderators can read deleted posts). Members with under 30 posts will be subject to a ONE DAY ban.

2) Use appropriate language. Racial or sexual slurs will not be tolerated. A ban will be issued at the discretion of the cb7tuner.com staff.

3) No items may be sold in the Beginner forums. Any "for sale" threads will be deleted.

4) Temporarily banned members will be PERMANTLY banned if they are found posting on another account.

The rules can and will be added to. Any updates will be marked in the title.

The rules for the overall forum can be found here:

    Power Steering problem and question

I have a 1990 Accord Lx and there's a problem with the PS system. When you turn the steering wheel feels "shaky". Almost as if the PS system is catching then releasing. Not sure though... never had this problem though. Currently have the front end ripped off so might a well ask about this problem before I decide to delete the ps. Also the motor and transmission have about 328,000 miles on them so guessing the PS may be bad?

I assume you have tried an "easy" fix like replacing the P/S fluid with genuine Honda stuff already? Made sure the belt is not slipping?

I had an issue like this on a used rack I bought once. Turns out the valve body unit on it was full of black sludge and the control valve inside it was sticking. I just decided to get a reman rack instead. It is possible to rebuild the valve body if that is the issue.

    92 Accord LX Coupe Build
    91 Prelude H22a Build
    91 Prelude 4WS ALB Build
You can't rationalize cars like these. They're not something you buy with your head, you buy them with your heart because you love them, and who can explain love?

Thanks for the info. The guy I bought it from said that the ps pump was ran with the cover off for a while. It may very well be clogged, though. I will look into it when I will take a look.

Try flushing the power steering fluid. May help, may not but it is less expensive than a new rack. New fluid is always a good thing.

I am actually thinking about just getting a new pump. Under the hood, there is all types of stuff. I don't know if it's just p/s fluid, or if its oil... leaning towards both. I did take a look at the fluid that was in it and it looks like it was changed more recently than 328,000 miles ago. Will definitely let you guys know what i find. I may try to flush the lines before I put on a new pump, though.

Flush it out before anything, it could be your rack & pinion

Thought of that same thing. Definately need to flush any type of crap out. Thanks.

I'm having the same problem. I rebuilt the ps pump but I still have a leak somewhere in a line. I'm going to replace those and flush the fluid. I'm leaning towards rack and pinion, though just started having that problem this week fml

Flush the fluid and replace by genuine honda then fill your reservoir to low level, start the engine and check the reservoir if the fluid is flowing towrds the PS intake line if not your PS pump is bad.
