ANY BUYING/SELLING IN THIS FORUM WILL RESULT IN AN INSTANT BAN!

Read the rules: http://www.cb7tuner.com/vbb/showthread.php?t=43956

Myself, and the other mods have been very nice and lenient with the rules. We have been deleting threads, and giving out warnings. Some members didn't get the clue and re-posted over and over... Now ANY member buying or selling in this section will be banned... No IF's AND's or BUT's.

Beginner Forum Rules - EVERYBODY read! (old and new members alike!)

Beginners start here. Once you have 30 worthwhile posts (off topic doesn't count) you may post outside of the Beginner forums. Any "whoring" (posting simply to raise your post count) will return your count to 0, or result in a ban.

These are the rules. Read them. Live by them.

1) Absolutely NO flaming! "Flaming" is an outright attack on a member. ALL questions are encouraged to be asked here, no matter how basic. Members with over 30 posts will be subject to a ONE WEEK ban if caught flaming in this forum (and yes, moderators can read deleted posts). Members with under 30 posts will be subject to a ONE DAY ban.

2) Use appropriate language. Racial or sexual slurs will not be tolerated. A ban will be issued at the discretion of the cb7tuner.com staff.

3) No items may be sold in the Beginner forums. Any "for sale" threads will be deleted.

4) Temporarily banned members will be PERMANTLY banned if they are found posting on another account.

The rules can and will be added to. Any updates will be marked in the title.

The rules for the overall forum can be found here:

Problem only when car gets warm

Just recently my car has been throwing codes and acting strangely. When my cars starts first thing its fine runs good (as good as it can with 275,000 miles) anyways, if i drive the car around for a while the CEL comes on. But sometimes it will run just fine and other times it will stutter quite a bit. I checked the codes today and i got codes 9 and 17. Now i might have gotten wrong info but i read that as long as my speedo and cruise work (which they both do) the sensor is fine. So it leaves me with code 9 which is Cylinder position sensor. Would something like that effect both cold and warm and would it cause my stuttering problems. Any help would be awesome.

Chances are you'll just need to replace your distributor. The only other thing i've seen cause 9 is loose injector clips and faulty wiring.

Any idea why it would run fine when cold and then act up when warm.

When the car is cold, it is running in "open loop mode". Essentially, it is running on pre-set fuel tables, and not by sensor feedback. Once it warms up, it runs in "closed loop mode", which means it's adjusting fuel by sensor input. Once the car warms up, if it's relying on malfunctioning sensors, it won't run properly.

Your symptoms also sound similar to those of a failing oxygen sensor, so that may be something to consider replacing as well (NTK/NGK or Denso only... do not use Bosch.) Sometimes a failing o2 sensor causes issues before it starts throwing codes (which would be 41 and 43.)

And yes, the most common method of fixing the CPS is by replacing the distributor. I'm sure you CAN take it apart and replace just the sensor, but I've never known anyone on here to do it. Never had a problem with it myself, so I have no firsthand experience.
