ANY BUYING/SELLING IN THIS FORUM WILL RESULT IN AN INSTANT BAN!

Read the rules: http://www.cb7tuner.com/vbb/showthread.php?t=43956

Myself, and the other mods have been very nice and lenient with the rules. We have been deleting threads, and giving out warnings. Some members didn't get the clue and re-posted over and over... Now ANY member buying or selling in this section will be banned... No IF's AND's or BUT's.

    cb7 h22a swap issues.

Search in threads isn't working for me right now so sorry if this is a repeat but I need help. I have a 93 accord coupe with an h22a swap in it. I bought someone else's swap when I should've done it myself but here we go. I had an issue with my tach lagging when I got on it and knew before hand that the dizzy is NOT from an h22. Its from an h23 non vtec with an external coil. I want to get it back to where I can run the h22a dizzy with internal coil and eliminate the external one. Its running on an f series harness if that makes a difference. Also the ecu is a chipped p08 and it hasn't been tuned but I noticed that I can't hear vtec kick in and there's a c.e.l. light on and the Guy said it was for vtec but I'm not sure on how to check obd 1 codes. I know to put a paperclip in the socket but don't know how to read them. So basically I want to know two things. How to get back to the original dizzy and how to check the wiring for vtec. Any help is greatly appreciated! Thanks!

It sounds like the person who did the swap knows more than you do about it. Maybe not much, though.

If you have a '93 Accord then you have an external coil. The distributor you have is the correct one. A USDM H22A1 distributor is the exact same part number. The internal coil units are from the JDM H22A and F22B DOHC.

The Accord harness is also the best option. It allows the connections to the body harnesses to be perfect. The only caveat being that you have to install a few additional wires to the harness. The exact number depends on the ECU type and whether or not your car originally had IABs installed or not.

When you say "PO8" do you mean PO6 or P28? Both are chip able ECUs from '92-'95 Civics. The P28 is from the EX/Si and has VTEC hardware. The PO6 would need it added. Find that out first.

Right but I wish I had done it myself so I wouldn't be trying to educate myself now lol and the Guy told me it was a. P08 but I will pull it out and see for myself and let you know. I was told a p13 would be better but if I did do the p13 what all would I have to do to wire up vtec since it is hand wired now? And what do you mean when you say the ecu would have vtec hardware? And the USDM h22 has the same dizzy as an h23 non vtec?

Yeah checked the ecu and it is a p06. And there is two wires running to the ecu from the vtec solenoid but hear no crossover what so ever. Nor do I feel it. I'm not Sue what rpms it is supposed to engage anyway with the ecu not being stock.

if you wanna use the p13 ecu everything needs to be properly wired. for example you need to have the knock sensor wired to the ecu, and as stated before the vtec needs to be wired in and theres 1 other thing that needs to be wired but i cant remeber. Me personaly as of now im using a chipped p28 thats tuned on crome and i didnt wire my knock becuase the 92-95 civics didnt have them and thats the ecu im using.

I was told a p13 would be better YES! but if I did do the p13 what all would I have to do to wire up vtec since it is hand wired now? Well, it all depends on how they have it now and what you mean by "hand-wired". There are two wires that attach to the VTEC solenoid. Are there any wires running the VTEC solenoid through the firewall right now?
And what do you mean when you say the ecu would have vtec hardware? There are a few additional components inside a VTEC ECU compared to a non-VTEC ECU. These are easily added to non-VTEC ECUs to make them function as VTEC ECUs. This may or may not have been performed on yours. You'll have to open it up, look around and search for the identifying features.
And the USDM h22 has the same dizzy as an h23 non vtec? Yes, if you are referring to the OBD1 H22A1 compared to the OBD1 H23A1. If you don't specify which H22A you're talking about then no one can correctly answer your questions.

            Answers above.

Okay then but I think ill go with the p28 so I don't have to do more wiring but yes there are two wires running to the ecu from the vtec solenoid but like I said I don't hear vtec kicking in at all. Any ideas on what that could be? Can the vtec solenoid go bad? I've never had one not work

It can get clogged up with sludge or metal shavings if the engine is in poor condition.

Saving the effort of wiring the car for a knock sensor and going with a P28 will mean the added effort of having to get a P28 chipped and tuned. That's effort and a decent amount of money for the tune.

Not to mention, this may already be done with your PO6. Did you not read what I suggested you do with your PO6?

The p06 is chipped but not tuned. As far as the vtec solenoid being clogged its not. I've removed it to redo the gaskets and it was clean. And what do I look for inside the ecu that would indicate whether or it any components have been added

                      pull the CEL, http://honda-tech.com/showthread.php?t=978933
then make sure the right size wires were put into the ECU for the vtec wiring.
then open ECU and look at IC14 there should be a tall 5 leg transistor

I'm running a P06 in my h22. You don't need a p28 it only needs two or three things added and its the same thing

The tach gets the signal from the dizzy. So if you have the wrong dizzy it would almost make sense that the tach might be flaky

The only reason to run a knock sensor is if you plan to use a P13. The p28 doesn't have the knock sensor on the board so no sense in bothering. Yes I ran it for my swap. Sort if a waste if my time

Having just done this swap about 2 months ago it is really straight forward.

What is the CEL light for?

Also what size exhaust do you have. When I had my stock cat and apexi cat back. I could hear vtec but couldn't really feel it. I put on a new header and 2.5 cat and now I don't hear it as much but I feel it more

Also most chips prob engage vtec at around 4800-5000

Okay checked the ecu and there is a5 point resistor soldered into ic14 and the wires ran for vtec are about twice the diameter of the original wires off of the vtec solenoid. Its speaker wire so maybe too much resistance? And my trouble code is 22 for the pressure switch. Also my exhaust is 2.5 all the way with a header and no cats or resonator.

ALSO... my speedometers doesn't work because the speed sensor is supposedly bad but I didn't have a code for it even unplugged. Any explanation?

You won't feel vtec if you have code 22 bc if the pressure sensor isn't working it won't engage. That is prob why you don't feel anything

I think one wire goes to the ecu and the other wire gets grounded for the pressure switch.

My speed sensor went bad and I never had a CEL either. This is not uncommon

Okay so would you reccomend replacing the solenoid or checking the wire to the e u? If so where should it be ran to on the ecu connector?
