So I recently got my CB7 which wasn’t running for 5years. The guy I got it from said it wouldn't run and had an oil pan leaking oil. I got the car for $400 which was sweet. So I started my Diag. I first got a can of starter fluid and dunked the air filter with it. Then starts
. While the car was on it started spewing out oil with force, not cool I thought.
So I first started with the fuel issue. I listened for the fuel pump to turn on and it didn’t. My first thought was the fuel pump main relay. I checked it out and saw that it was not burnt out. I then dropped the tank and checked the fuel pump. That thing was gone man. It was all rusted and crudded out. I applied 12v and the thing did not work. So I put a new fuel pump assembly in it with a new fuel filter and also cleaned out the fuel tank as best as I could. After that the car ran and had a miss on two cylinders. I then thought I the spark plugs were fouled out. So I put a new set of Plugs and Wires with a new cap and rotor. That didn’t fix it.
I thought for a while and decided to swap the injectors of my bro's 96 accord lx. The car then ran smooth.
. Now for the oil leak. I looked and found that the oil leak was coming from behind the timing belt cover. I removed it and saw the oil drive seal just chillaxing out of the oil drive gear shaft. I installed a new seal and timing belt while I was there. Put new oil and filter and no more oil leak.
I drove my cb7 coupe for almost a week until it started to die while I was driving it. It first did it when I was on my way to Harbor Freight to get a D.A. to start sanding the car; paint was all jacked up due to 5 years sitting in Vegas weather. So I barely make it to my drive way and start thinking what could be wrong with it now. I searched the forum for this issue and found that a lot of peeps have a bad Main Relay, ICM, or Distributor. I checked the main relay again and the circuit board looked fine but I wasn’t convinced, so I bought a new one. The relay didn’t fix it, the accord still died. I then went to replace the ICM and that didn’t fix it either. At this point I was upset. Granted I got the car for $400 but I wasn’t expecting to have this issue with it. After more research I came to the decision to replace the distributor. I got it from AutoZone with a lifetime warranty. But that didn’t help either.
The only thing I thought could be wrong that was left was the coil. Got that and it didn’t fix it either. I got stranded yesterday after work in 100 degree weather and thought in maybe this isn’t for me. I couldn’t understand what else is there to replace... I came to the conclusion that it had to be a defective fuel pump/fuel filter. I take off the fuel filter first; tap it on the ground and all this muddy stuff spewed out. Duuhhhh the car sat for 5 years EF, I said to myself. I turn on the key to see if the fuel in the line is muddy and it looked ok. I installed a new filter and didn’t have a problem all the way home. This was a lesson for me to ALWAYS start with the basics first every time there is problem. I hope this helps out other fellow cb7 owners.
