ANY BUYING/SELLING IN THIS FORUM WILL RESULT IN AN INSTANT BAN!

Read the rules: http://www.cb7tuner.com/vbb/showthread.php?t=43956

Myself, and the other mods have been very nice and lenient with the rules. We have been deleting threads, and giving out warnings. Some members didn't get the clue and re-posted over and over... Now ANY member buying or selling in this section will be banned... No IF's AND's or BUT's.

Beginner Forum Rules - EVERYBODY read! (old and new members alike!)

Beginners start here. Once you have 30 worthwhile posts (off topic doesn't count) you may post outside of the Beginner forums. Any "whoring" (posting simply to raise your post count) will return your count to 0, or result in a ban.

These are the rules. Read them. Live by them.

1) Absolutely NO flaming! "Flaming" is an outright attack on a member. ALL questions are encouraged to be asked here, no matter how basic. Members with over 30 posts will be subject to a ONE WEEK ban if caught flaming in this forum (and yes, moderators can read deleted posts). Members with under 30 posts will be subject to a ONE DAY ban.

2) Use appropriate language. Racial or sexual slurs will not be tolerated. A ban will be issued at the discretion of the cb7tuner.com staff.

3) No items may be sold in the Beginner forums. Any "for sale" threads will be deleted.

4) Temporarily banned members will be PERMANTLY banned if they are found posting on another account.

The rules can and will be added to. Any updates will be marked in the title.

can a cracked f22a1 manifold be welded?

On my f22a1's exhaust manifold the number one cylinder tube has a complete 360 degree crack before the 4 merge into one, ive heard alot that cast iron cant and shouldnt be welded, but just wanted to hear everyones $0.02

I searched and came up with nothing...

Honestly it would cost more to repair that stock exhaust manifold than it would be to get a new one(dependimg on selection), and there are plenty of options. If your going to be modifying the engine this is a great place to start. If your funds are limited you CAN get an eBay cheapie header for around $50 shipped. Good ones like Megan racing are around $170 and DC around $300.

IF you wanna stay stock you can source a good a4 manifold for cheap and it's a stock upgrade from the a1.

Well the f22a1 has the o2 sensor on the header itself, and i would like to get a ebay or
A4 header, but i dont want to deal with running new wires or un-taping the stock wire harness to reroute the wires, also, none of the ebay headers have the o2 sensor mounting hole in the correct spot for the f22a1, i have seen some where the o2 sensor mounts to just one cylinders runner , but i dont like that idea

Most cheapie "ebay" headers have two o2 sensor bungs so they are universal. You'll be able to put the o2 sensor in either location, with a plug in the other.
Comes in handy if you ever want to play with ECU tuning... leaves a spot for a wideband o2 sensor.

There is two types of A4 manifolds. One that has the o2 bung on the manifold and one that has it on the downpipe. The one that has it on the manifold is better for you and no re-wiring involved an costs about 25 at the junkyard. The one that has it on the downpipe is bigger and looks better, but more work to run if you dont have an EX model.

Are there really? The A4 is the most limited-production CB7 engine. I'm surprised there are 2 versions of the manifold. News to me (then again, it's the one I've never really had any hands-on experience with.)

I have seen my neighbor get his welded by electric welder and it didnt last two weeks. Its better to buy off ebay or salvage yard.

                Thought there was three type
                4-1 cast f22a1 o2 bung in upper manifold 90-93 LX/DX 92-95 Prelude S
4-2-1 cast f22a6 o2 bung in lower section of manifold 92-93 EX (jdm F22b DOHC)
4-2-1 steel f22a4 o2 bung in lower section of manifold 90-91 EX

To answer your question, yes cast can be welded by an experienced welder. It is not easy and most can't do it. Like others have said, cheaper and easier to replace than to pay to have it welded. An hour of labor at your local welding shop will run you more than a new or used manifold. Use it as an excuse to upgrade. Manifold cracked on my truck near one of the bolts, minor tick, great excuse to order headers.

That's all I was ever aware of.
Since the F22A4 only came in the 90-91 EX, I don't see that there's much flexibility for it to have multiple manifold variants. Of all the F22A engines found in North American CBs, the A4 was the shortest run and put in the fewest models! At least the A1 had all 4 production years, and the A6 had 3 of them (very limited in the 91 SE, but it was there.)

You better believe it. Some welders could charge you anywhere from 85 to 125 per hour and its a 1hour minimum.

That will be your best bet. Welding cast without experience will lead to a cracked weld that will leak anyway. Don't skimp out on the gasket when you get a new one either.
