ANY BUYING/SELLING IN THIS FORUM WILL RESULT IN AN INSTANT BAN!

Read the rules: http://www.cb7tuner.com/vbb/showthread.php?t=43956

Myself, and the other mods have been very nice and lenient with the rules. We have been deleting threads, and giving out warnings. Some members didn't get the clue and re-posted over and over... Now ANY member buying or selling in this section will be banned... No IF's AND's or BUT's.

Beginner Forum Rules - EVERYBODY read! (old and new members alike!)

Beginners start here. Once you have 30 worthwhile posts (off topic doesn't count) you may post outside of the Beginner forums. Any "whoring" (posting simply to raise your post count) will return your count to 0, or result in a ban.

These are the rules. Read them. Live by them.

1) Absolutely NO flaming! "Flaming" is an outright attack on a member. ALL questions are encouraged to be asked here, no matter how basic. Members with over 30 posts will be subject to a ONE WEEK ban if caught flaming in this forum (and yes, moderators can read deleted posts). Members with under 30 posts will be subject to a ONE DAY ban.

2) Use appropriate language. Racial or sexual slurs will not be tolerated. A ban will be issued at the discretion of the cb7tuner.com staff.

3) No items may be sold in the Beginner forums. Any "for sale" threads will be deleted.

4) Temporarily banned members will be PERMANTLY banned if they are found posting on another account.

The rules can and will be added to. Any updates will be marked in the title.

The rules for the overall forum can be found here:

Engine shut off while driving. Won't start.

First off I'd like to start by saying I tried to search for similar issues in threads but got a database error. Tonight on the way home from work I set my cruise and just rolled along. Coming out of a corner it just shut off. I can hear the starter engage and the motor turns over. But its not firing. Could this possibly be a fuel pump or plugged filter? I had codes 41 and 43, but from my research a bad O2 Sensor was the leading cause of both codes. First time under the hood of a Honda so any feedback is appreciated.

Is the engine turning over faster than normal? Have you checked if you're not getting spark or fuel?

Yeah. Definitely turning over at a quicker rate. Didn't have any light to really look into it. Nor did I have my tools.

That, my friend, sounds like a broken timing belt. Stop trying to start the car, you may cause damage, if you already haven't. Remove the valve cover and see if the belt is broken.

Well. That sounds like fun. I'll have a look at it in the morning when I can see and can get a ride back to my car.

It's not that bad. If you didn't bend any valves, there are DIYs here that will help with replacing the timing belt, and members that will help with questions. That said, there's a decent sized chance you have caused damage by trying to turn the engine over. But that can be addressed later.

If the timing belt isn't broken the distributor could cause a similar issue. It happened with my CB once. It just stopped one day and would only crank.

You're right, I know on my old sentra that the rotor on the distributor popped off one time..silly me I didn't look at the distributor first and spend a whole day diagnosing the car, duh!!

Let's not cry wolf first, it might not be the timing belt but something very simple. Spark and fuel first, then other major things.

I'm checking into it today before work. I already bought the valve cover gasket so I'll pop it off and take a peek. Is anybody else having a problem with the search engine? Every time I try to find the DIY on timing it throws me a database error page instead. Can anyone link the DIY for a timing belt change? I'm pricing on rock auto and want to know what all gaskets I'll need if I have to do a timing repair.

Tow truck dropped off my car this morning and after removing the valve cover this is what I found.

My first conclusion since the belt seam was up top and still in tact is that a tensioner may have failed. Won't know for sure until I open it up this weekend. So now to order the new timing kit with water pump. I figure I might as well do it all in one shot so I hopefully won't have to go back in there. Also considered the balance shaft delete since I will already be in there. Any thoughts?

After thought. I read that forum members have a discount with Rock Auto in another thread a few weeks ago. Is that still in effect and if so what promo code do we need?
