ANY BUYING/SELLING IN THIS FORUM WILL RESULT IN AN INSTANT BAN!

Read the rules: http://www.cb7tuner.com/vbb/showthread.php?t=43956

Myself, and the other mods have been very nice and lenient with the rules. We have been deleting threads, and giving out warnings. Some members didn't get the clue and re-posted over and over... Now ANY member buying or selling in this section will be banned... No IF's AND's or BUT's.

Beginner Forum Rules - EVERYBODY read! (old and new members alike!)

Beginners start here. Once you have 30 worthwhile posts (off topic doesn't count) you may post outside of the Beginner forums. Any "whoring" (posting simply to raise your post count) will return your count to 0, or result in a ban.

These are the rules. Read them. Live by them.

1) Absolutely NO flaming! "Flaming" is an outright attack on a member. ALL questions are encouraged to be asked here, no matter how basic. Members with over 30 posts will be subject to a ONE WEEK ban if caught flaming in this forum (and yes, moderators can read deleted posts). Members with under 30 posts will be subject to a ONE DAY ban.

2) Use appropriate language. Racial or sexual slurs will not be tolerated. A ban will be issued at the discretion of the cb7tuner.com staff.

3) No items may be sold in the Beginner forums. Any "for sale" threads will be deleted.

4) Temporarily banned members will be PERMANTLY banned if they are found posting on another account.

The rules can and will be added to. Any updates will be marked in the title.

The rules for the overall forum can be found here:

need final answer re ECU compatibility

    Hello,

My gf acquired a 92 Accord DX. It ended up with a submerged ECU due to a leaky sunroof and won't start, so we're going to try replacing the ECU. Got it out today and the part # is 37820-PT3-L04.

Now, she has looked on Ebay and found a number of ECUs with the first two sections of the part # the same but the final three #s different, as in 37820-PT3-A55 (for example). These all seem to be for an automatic transmission, and are all cheaper. The ones with the exact same #s are all more expensive. Online research has turned up some people insisting that it's ok to put the ECU from an auto into a manual car, and others insisting that you can't because the check engine light will come on and/or it won't run well.

Can anyone here give a definitive answer to this question?

So this DX is a California emissions car or at least the ecu is (original ecu I'd imagine but you never know). That's what the "L" in L04 means. If it were a 49 state ecu it'd be A04. The 0 is manual, 5 is auto. I have no personal experience putting an auto ecu in a manual car but I've read many times about idle issues. I myself would find a manual ecu and if the car is in Cali, it may be best to get an L ecu. To slightly expand your possibilities, a 92-95 Prelude S P12 ecu could be used too. It's also too bad you couldn't borrow someones good known ecu!
