Myself, and the other mods have been very nice and lenient with the rules. We have been deleting threads, and giving out warnings. Some members didn't get the clue and re-posted over and over... Now ANY member buying or selling in this section will be banned... No IF's AND's or BUT's.

Beginner Forum Rules - EVERYBODY read! (old and new members alike!)

Beginners start here. Once you have 30 worthwhile posts (off topic doesn't count) you may post outside of the Beginner forums. Any "whoring" (posting simply to raise your post count) will return your count to 0, or result in a ban.

These are the rules. Read them. Live by them.

1) Absolutely NO flaming! "Flaming" is an outright attack on a member. ALL questions are encouraged to be asked here, no matter how basic. Members with over 30 posts will be subject to a ONE WEEK ban if caught flaming in this forum (and yes, moderators can read deleted posts). Members with under 30 posts will be subject to a ONE DAY ban.

2) Use appropriate language. Racial or sexual slurs will not be tolerated. A ban will be issued at the discretion of the cb7tuner.com staff.

3) No items may be sold in the Beginner forums. Any "for sale" threads will be deleted.

4) Temporarily banned members will be PERMANTLY banned if they are found posting on another account.

The rules can and will be added to. Any updates will be marked in the title.

    Timing Issues!

    Alright so here is what happened. My buddy and I were driving to Autozone. I got about half a mile down the road and come to a stop. The engine revs to about 1.6k rpm then dies. I try to crank it but it sounds like it had jumped time. So one of my other friends pulls me back home. I take the cam gear off and realize that the woodruff key has cracked and the cam gear was slightly shifted to the left (if looking at the side it is on and facing towards the gear). So I get an OEM Woodruff key put it on set it to TDC. I get in it to start it, it'll crank and almost start but right as it goes to start it'll make a really bad backfiring sound. The motor sounds likes its in time (from when it first happened) I changed the distributor and spark plugs (the old ones smelled of straight gas). So the point of this long ass message is, is my car still out of time, and could a bent valve cause this?

    If it's out of time, you might have bent a valve. take the valve cover off and look!

      If nothing is visible with the valve cover off, put it all back together and do a compression test.

        Yeah I was thinking about doing a compression test on it. Also how could i tell a bent valve from taking the valve cover off? Will it be that noticeable.

          Well that's why Deev said to do a compression test. The stem might not look bent, but the head of the valve could be. This would cause it to not seat, and leak compression.
