Greetings! I used to have a 1991 Honda Accord EX when I got out of the military. I had an account here and I had some pics up but that was eons ago.
Now, I have just recently come into possession of one of the cleanest CB7 I have been able to come across in some time, just well taken care of. Now, when I bought it, the muffler was completely shitcanned. It had rusted around the seams and blown open and was all sorts of BLRAAHHHHHH.
Well, I don't like attention so I immediately ordered up some exhaust piping, a Vibrant Ultra Quiet Resonator and Vibrant Ultra Quiet Muffler. I also ordered an exhaust header, 4-2-1 downpipe, the gaskets and all that jazz.
I slapped it all together but I had to do it with pinched time having to work in agriculture on 12 hour days. There was one of the three studs going into the 4-2-1 from the exhaust header that was meeting the flange at the oil pan corner and since I had to take the exhaust system off several times to ensure fitment, I didn't tighten the stud adequately.
Frustrated mostly from being hot and sweaty all day to try and work on hot exhaust system getting more hot and dirty, I looked at the bolt IN COMPLETE DRAMATIC FORESHADOWING, tightened it one more turn, and said "screw it. It'll hold."
Well I turned the engine over -- what a sweet quiet difference! I backed out and took off for work. It was a fantastic, quiet and breezy ride to work. I had the windows rolled down and though I was a little louder than normal because of the intake and I guess thinner material of the new manifold, I was in bliss.
I took a turn down a cornfield, and then I heard it. *tink*
POP
I looked into the rearview mirror to see, bouncing behind me, that familiar golden stud, its silvery nut clutching dearly as it disappeared into the fading distance. I went back to find it to no avail.
BLAHHHHHHH
Ugh. The missing fastener allowed an exit for the exhaust gases allowing it to fart out the gap between the exhaust header and the 4-2-1. Consequently, after driving it like this, the gasket burnt out.
BWAAAAHHHH
Oh yeah, the messed up linkage now cocked the manifold a little bit, allowing gases to escape downward, making super resonant farting that annoys everyone.
Well, this morning I was getting into the doghouse to check what I could fix and noticed the two blowouts. SO as I am now on my way to autozone to get two more gaskets and some rug cleaner, I figure Ill set the mood with my first post as one that is useful.
I am going to charge up my camera, and make up an exhaust header how to .
=)
