ANY BUYING/SELLING IN THIS FORUM WILL RESULT IN AN INSTANT BAN!

Read the rules: http://www.cb7tuner.com/vbb/showthread.php?t=43956

Myself, and the other mods have been very nice and lenient with the rules. We have been deleting threads, and giving out warnings. Some members didn't get the clue and re-posted over and over... Now ANY member buying or selling in this section will be banned... No IF's AND's or BUT's.

Beginner Forum Rules - EVERYBODY read! (old and new members alike!)

Beginners start here. Once you have 30 worthwhile posts (off topic doesn't count) you may post outside of the Beginner forums. Any "whoring" (posting simply to raise your post count) will return your count to 0, or result in a ban.

These are the rules. Read them. Live by them.

1) Absolutely NO flaming! "Flaming" is an outright attack on a member. ALL questions are encouraged to be asked here, no matter how basic. Members with over 30 posts will be subject to a ONE WEEK ban if caught flaming in this forum (and yes, moderators can read deleted posts). Members with under 30 posts will be subject to a ONE DAY ban.

2) Use appropriate language. Racial or sexual slurs will not be tolerated. A ban will be issued at the discretion of the cb7tuner.com staff.

3) No items may be sold in the Beginner forums. Any "for sale" threads will be deleted.

4) Temporarily banned members will be PERMANTLY banned if they are found posting on another account.

The rules can and will be added to. Any updates will be marked in the title.

The rules for the overall forum can be found here:

Is a sealed bearing ruined if it's opened up?

When removing my front bearing/hub from the spindle, the inner race of the bearing moved some. I could see the balls inside the bearing.

I was careful to not allow contamination to enter the bearing and packed it when some good Mobil wheel bearing grease, then pressed the inner race back into the bearing. It's tight now and it rotates smoothly with no noticeable play.

Am I asking for trouble here by reusing this bearing? As I understand it, the bearing's preload is set by the axle nut anyway. It was replaced about a year ago (Moog) so I hate to trash it.

personally I don't think you will have a problem, if you were truly careful about not getting any dirt in it. The problem is that the grease may have touched the dirt on the exterior of the bearing while it was separated... like you didnt drop anything in there, but an edge may have touched itself and gotten dirty. Unless the bearing was new and clean, it probably had some road dirt on it? Anyway if it is sealed back up, I doubt anything that got in would be that catastrophic, assuming nothing else is getting in. I would feel pretty comfortable running it, personally, but I would keep an eye on it over time just to make sure. But I wouldn't go replacing it just because people say "once its opened, its bad"

Whenever i open Sealed bearing like that, I always remove every single bearing, clean everything completely with liquid degreaser, Transfer it to a white microfibre towel, clean it perfectly, then immediately soak it in the required grease, and repack it myself. works excellently for axles. im sure The wheel bearing would be fine if you just put it back on, but thats how i do it.
sold! But here's my build thread for those interested.
