ANY BUYING/SELLING IN THIS FORUM WILL RESULT IN AN INSTANT BAN!

Read the rules: http://www.cb7tuner.com/vbb/showthread.php?t=43956

Myself, and the other mods have been very nice and lenient with the rules. We have been deleting threads, and giving out warnings. Some members didn't get the clue and re-posted over and over... Now ANY member buying or selling in this section will be banned... No IF's AND's or BUT's.

Beginner Forum Rules - EVERYBODY read! (old and new members alike!)

Beginners start here. Once you have 30 worthwhile posts (off topic doesn't count) you may post outside of the Beginner forums. Any "whoring" (posting simply to raise your post count) will return your count to 0, or result in a ban.

These are the rules. Read them. Live by them.

1) Absolutely NO flaming! "Flaming" is an outright attack on a member. ALL questions are encouraged to be asked here, no matter how basic. Members with over 30 posts will be subject to a ONE WEEK ban if caught flaming in this forum (and yes, moderators can read deleted posts). Members with under 30 posts will be subject to a ONE DAY ban.

2) Use appropriate language. Racial or sexual slurs will not be tolerated. A ban will be issued at the discretion of the cb7tuner.com staff.

3) No items may be sold in the Beginner forums. Any "for sale" threads will be deleted.

4) Temporarily banned members will be PERMANTLY banned if they are found posting on another account.

The rules can and will be added to. Any updates will be marked in the title.

The rules for the overall forum can be found here:

    92' Honda Accord DOHC V-tec w/turbo

I've been torn on financing a new vehicle (Subaru WRX) but insurance costs are to high. I have in mind to do a engine swap into my 1992 Honda Accord which I'm running a 2.2 L F22A I4 SOHC.

I'm not familiar with engine swaps but I've seen a lot of people taking the engines out of a 5th generation Prelude and putting them into the 4th generation accords. From what I know, they're just plug and play. Only question is which engine would be best for me to turbo charge? I have a 5k budget to work with. Any input would be very helpful.

The engine you speak of is the H22A... found in both the 4th generation and 5th generation Prelude. The 4th generation engines (especially the 1995 and older) are the better options, honestly. Closed-deck blocks, and OBD1 (easier swap.) They're not exactly "plug and play", as some minor modifications are necessary... but they are very easy swaps. You can find details in the Swaps section of this site.

NO H or F series engine is good for turbo in stock form. Anyone who tells you otherwise is misinformed. Stock ring lands are not made to handle boost, and even a low boost setup with a good tune and careful driving will potentially cause them to fail in a short period of time. Some people have gotten lucky... but that's all it is... luck.

If you want to go turbo, you don't need a swap. The H22A is a GREAT engine, but it's an unnecessary expense if turbo is your plan. Just install some forged pistons in your F22A (the entire thing will cost less than a decent H22A swap, especially if you can do the work yourself.) The stock F22A block is open-deck, which isn't extremely strong... but it should hold 350-400whp with forged pistons and a good tune, as long as you don't beat the living snot out of it. With a fairly lightweight FWD car, you likely don't want much more power than that anyway, as it will be difficult to maintain traction. I have a 2006 CTS-V with about 330whp. It weighs about 1000lbs more than a CB7, and can run a quarter mile in about 13 seconds flat. 350-400whp will make a 3000lb CB7 an absolute rocket, as long as you can put the power to the ground.

With $5000 in hand, you should be able to build a nice setup.
    Treadstone makes decent turbo kits.
Race Engineering offers some great options for engine internals, valvetrain, and clutches. Valvetrain should be fine if you stay bone-stock. Internals and clutch will need to be updated. Head gasket might not be a bad idea to upgrade either, if you want to be safe (you'll need to replace it anyway after taking the engine apart to install new internals.)
You'll also need a proper engine management system, as a stock ECU will kaboom your engine quite quickly. You have MANY options, from chipped ECUs, to piggyback systems, to full standalone units. A chipped ECU is the most cost-effective way to do it, and would be plenty for a basic street application. Since I assume you don't know how to tune a Honda ECU, the FIRST thing you should do is find yourself a competent tuner. Once you find someone in your area with a good reputation, see what they're most comfortable using... and buy that. Don't buy a random engine management solution and expect a tuner to know how to use it.

You are about 3 hour away from kaizenspeed which is a really good tuning company. They worked on NWaccord and he made 600+ hp. But there is a plethera of knowledge on this website about turbo charging our motor. Their website is kstuned.com they are located in kennewick, wa.
