ANY BUYING/SELLING IN THIS FORUM WILL RESULT IN AN INSTANT BAN!

Read the rules: http://www.cb7tuner.com/vbb/showthread.php?t=43956

Myself, and the other mods have been very nice and lenient with the rules. We have been deleting threads, and giving out warnings. Some members didn't get the clue and re-posted over and over... Now ANY member buying or selling in this section will be banned... No IF's AND's or BUT's.

Beginner Forum Rules - EVERYBODY read! (old and new members alike!)

Beginners start here. Once you have 30 worthwhile posts (off topic doesn't count) you may post outside of the Beginner forums. Any "whoring" (posting simply to raise your post count) will return your count to 0, or result in a ban.

These are the rules. Read them. Live by them.

1) Absolutely NO flaming! "Flaming" is an outright attack on a member. ALL questions are encouraged to be asked here, no matter how basic. Members with over 30 posts will be subject to a ONE WEEK ban if caught flaming in this forum (and yes, moderators can read deleted posts). Members with under 30 posts will be subject to a ONE DAY ban.

2) Use appropriate language. Racial or sexual slurs will not be tolerated. A ban will be issued at the discretion of the cb7tuner.com staff.

3) No items may be sold in the Beginner forums. Any "for sale" threads will be deleted.

4) Temporarily banned members will be PERMANTLY banned if they are found posting on another account.

The rules can and will be added to. Any updates will be marked in the title.

The rules for the overall forum can be found here:

    automatic tranny problems PLZ help

My rebuilt 1-yr. old auto tranny is messed up. For some reason, randomly I cannot shift into 3rd or 4th gear. The car also takes off in 2nd gear instead of first. I checked the fluid level and it is fine. Other days I have no problems at all. The transmission shifts smooth all the time. The only thing I have noticed is that I only have this problem on hot days. Could it be the transmission cooler, or
TCU. I have no clue and it is pissing me off because Cottmann transmissions does not warranty sensors which is bs because I paid $2000 for the rebuild. Any suggestions to the problem would be greatly appreciated. Thanks

Not to be a Dick, but for 2K+ allitle more, you could've swapped the engine and tranny. Now in refrence to your query (lol) I think it's the TCU!

Were there any tranny codes? D4 light flashing or S light flashing? It could be your shift solenoids or check your ATF level.

I had this problem a couple of months ago. My problem was also intermittent in the beginning, but eventually became constant, along with a steady "S" light. I did a lot of research, and found it to be a blown capacitor and resistor. The resistors' function can be affected by heat, thereby affecting the electrical signal that is being processed on within the TCU. This eventually causes the associated capacitor (mentioned before) to eventually to fail, making this problem permanent. If you disconnect, remove, and take the cover off the TCU, you might find in the lower, right hand corner (with the pin connector facing down), a burnt or discolored capacitor (looks like a very small beverage can), and resistor.

I tried to replace both the resistor and the capacitor, but this proved to be futile, as the parts with the exact same volt and farad ratings proved to be nearly impossible to find (I went so far as to seek parts from a local company who makes high tech satellite parts for NASA). Eventually I went to a junk yard and got a replacement TCU for $40, and the problem was cured.

I hoped this provides some insight to your problem, and either identifies the problem, or eliminates a variable. Either way, good luck, I hope you are able to figure it out.

This is exactly what is happening to me. Thanks
