ANY BUYING/SELLING IN THIS FORUM WILL RESULT IN AN INSTANT BAN!

Read the rules: http://www.cb7tuner.com/vbb/showthread.php?t=43956

Myself, and the other mods have been very nice and lenient with the rules. We have been deleting threads, and giving out warnings. Some members didn't get the clue and re-posted over and over... Now ANY member buying or selling in this section will be banned... No IF's AND's or BUT's.

Beginner Forum Rules - EVERYBODY read! (old and new members alike!)

Beginners start here. Once you have 30 worthwhile posts (off topic doesn't count) you may post outside of the Beginner forums. Any "whoring" (posting simply to raise your post count) will return your count to 0, or result in a ban.

These are the rules. Read them. Live by them.

1) Absolutely NO flaming! "Flaming" is an outright attack on a member. ALL questions are encouraged to be asked here, no matter how basic. Members with over 30 posts will be subject to a ONE WEEK ban if caught flaming in this forum (and yes, moderators can read deleted posts). Members with under 30 posts will be subject to a ONE DAY ban.

2) Use appropriate language. Racial or sexual slurs will not be tolerated. A ban will be issued at the discretion of the cb7tuner.com staff.

3) No items may be sold in the Beginner forums. Any "for sale" threads will be deleted.

4) Temporarily banned members will be PERMANTLY banned if they are found posting on another account.

The rules can and will be added to. Any updates will be marked in the title.

The rules for the overall forum can be found here:

Read them. You will be expected to follow them.

    Turbo Lingo help

    Hey,

    Can someone help me with all this Turbo Lingo? Im trying to search (yes, I, one of those ppl who actually search ) "Turbo"

    but I cant understand a god damn thing that people are writing...

    What does T3/T4 mean?

    And the "trim" size...

    Im assuming that a .70 is a smaller turbo than a .50

    I also know that a small turbo will spool up faster and a big turbo will give you top end...

    "My non ballbearing 57 trim .63/.60 t3/t4 spools to 8lbs at about 3k, but begins to make boost around 2100 or so."

    ^^^ I stole that quote from a Turbo post and I dont even know what its saying.

    Help me and thanks,
    -Lam

    " Trim is an area ratio used to describe both turbine and compressor wheels. Trim is calculated using the inducer and exducer diameters.
    Example:
    Inducer diameter = 88mm
    Exducer diameter = 117.5mm
    Trim = Inducer2/Exducer2
    Trim = 882/117.52 = 56 Trim
    As trim is increased, the wheel can support more air/gas flow."

    Turbo: Another can of worms. You get what you pay for, if you go cheap you get cheap. If someone tries to sell you a 't3/t4 that makes 25psi' then run away fast. There are literally thousands of combinations of parts that can make a t3/t4 turbo - from one too small for a 2 liter honda to one that is too big for an 8 liter viper. Call a competent turbo vendor or buy a book on turbochargers and spec your own. A good turbo will run you $600-800 or so. Add $500 or so for ball bearings.

    t3/t4 simply means a turbo with a t3 turbine and a t4 compressor. There is nothing magical about this. There are 4 t3 turbines and 4 t3 turbine housings. There are dozens of t4 compressors and housings. Do the math and note that "t3/t4" includes hundreds of combinations. Add in tricks like putting a t4 turbine in a t3 housing, clipped turbines, etc, etc. and you have thousands of possible combinations.

        In case anyone is confused there, the 2 means 'squared' (not added/multiplied/etc) ... Perhaps this might be a little clearer:

        (88 x 88)/(117.5 x 117.5) = .56 = "56 Trim"

        2¢

        Definitely good information though!

        EDIT: I accidentally left the two on the 88 ... It's gone now ..

            Im not really sure of the details on how it works. But the main idea is the pressure from your exhaust drives the turbine which compresses air into your intake, giving you a shitload of air into your intake. The psi rating is how much the air is compressed.
