okay guys im confused. in know the ex models have one but my friend has a lx and he doesnt have one. its a big circle thing and the opposite end of the throttle body. it says its purpose is to give me more torque at low rpm at closed positions and open position for maximum horsepower at high rpm. i dont understand its purpose. it has a hose connected to it and its nuber 13 so its just a vacum hose. well i took it off and i noticed a difference but then i just put it back on but i cant tell and diff. im just confused on what its suppose to do. should i take the hose off and push the thing to where its always open or just leave it like it is. thanks.

Read the rules: http://www.cb7tuner.com/vbb/showthread.php?t=43956
Myself, and the other mods have been very nice and lenient with the rules. We have been deleting threads, and giving out warnings. Some members didn't get the clue and re-posted over and over... Now ANY member buying or selling in this section will be banned... No IF's AND's or BUT's.

Beginner Forum Rules - EVERYBODY read! (old and new members alike!)
Beginners start here. Once you have 30 worthwhile posts (off topic doesn't count) you may post outside of the Beginner forums. Any "whoring" (posting simply to raise your post count) will return your count to 0, or result in a ban.
These are the rules. Read them. Live by them.
1) Absolutely NO flaming! "Flaming" is an outright attack on a member. ALL questions are encouraged to be asked here, no matter how basic. Members with over 30 posts will be subject to a ONE WEEK ban if caught flaming in this forum (and yes, moderators can read deleted posts). Members with under 30 posts will be subject to a ONE DAY ban.
2) Use appropriate language. Racial or sexual slurs will not be tolerated. A ban will be issued at the discretion of the cb7tuner.com staff.
3) No items may be sold in the Beginner forums. Any "for sale" threads will be deleted.
4) Temporarily banned members will be PERMANTLY banned if they are found posting on another account.
The rules can and will be added to. Any updates will be marked in the title.
The rules for the overall forum can be found here:

intake air bypass

What this item performs is to control the butterfly valves in the IM, you have 8 valves in your IM, 4 of which are controlled by the vacuum, at idle and high vacuum the valves are closed. When throttled at higher rpm, low vacuum the valves open allowing more air into the engine. You have a A6 engine, the only model
that came with this set up. Enjoy it.

okay heres the deal. i had a f22a6 blew the motor and now i have f22a1 but i put the throttle body and exhaust mani fold on the f22a1. should i take the air bypass off or leave it on. cause the lx models dont have on so what should i do. should i push the butterfly valve open so its constently open or should i just leave it there.

If you want more hp get a short ram or cold air intake. Otherwise if you want a quiet engine, just leave it as it is. The purpose of the butterfly valves is to keep the engine as quiet as possible at low rpm's.Originally posted by whatever210i just want to know if theres any way i can get more hp out of the IM.

What you have is an F22A1 block with an F22A6 intake manifold. The F22A1 uses a PT-3 ECU, and the EX accords with an F22A6 use the PT-6 ECU. One key difference between the PT-3 and the PT-6 is the PT-6 sends a signal from PIN A17 that will ground the IAB control box any time the engine is spinning below 4,700 RPM. This keeps the 4 valves in the intake manifold sealed shut. When those valves are closed, only the primary runners are flowing. Once you are in the high revs, the box releases the vaccum and the spring loaded valves open up so that you have secondary intake runners, which allow you to flow a higher volume of air at high RPM. The circle thing you see on top is the diaphram that actually creates the pressue to hold the butterfly valves shut. The part you can't see is the black box under the intake manifold that holds a vaccum. The black box is wired to pin A17 of your ECU, and is controlled from the computer. Since your LX doesnt have the wire you'll need to run one wire from A17 to the black box, and one wire from a +12V source to the black box. That completes the circuit. You have to have the whole system intact for it to work and to see gains. Don't let anyone tell you you can hook up the hose to your vaccum and it'll work. Its controlled by the PT-6, not mechanically.
If you just blew an F22A6 and now have an F22A1 shortblock, just bolt the manifolds from the A6 to the A1 and remember to connect the wiring back to the black box on the underside of the A6 manifold. Then it'll practically be an F22A6 again...
oh yeah.. search damnit.
hold on to your butts
