ANY BUYING/SELLING IN THIS FORUM WILL RESULT IN AN INSTANT BAN!

Read the rules: http://www.cb7tuner.com/vbb/showthread.php?t=43956

Myself, and the other mods have been very nice and lenient with the rules. We have been deleting threads, and giving out warnings. Some members didn't get the clue and re-posted over and over... Now ANY member buying or selling in this section will be banned... No IF's AND's or BUT's.

Beginner Forum Rules - EVERYBODY read! (old and new members alike!)

Beginners start here. Once you have 30 worthwhile posts (off topic doesn't count) you may post outside of the Beginner forums. Any "whoring" (posting simply to raise your post count) will return your count to 0, or result in a ban.

These are the rules. Read them. Live by them.

1) Absolutely NO flaming! "Flaming" is an outright attack on a member. ALL questions are encouraged to be asked here, no matter how basic. Members with over 30 posts will be subject to a ONE WEEK ban if caught flaming in this forum (and yes, moderators can read deleted posts). Members with under 30 posts will be subject to a ONE DAY ban.

2) Use appropriate language. Racial or sexual slurs will not be tolerated. A ban will be issued at the discretion of the cb7tuner.com staff.

3) No items may be sold in the Beginner forums. Any "for sale" threads will be deleted.

4) Temporarily banned members will be PERMANTLY banned if they are found posting on another account.

The rules can and will be added to. Any updates will be marked in the title.

The rules for the overall forum can be found here:

    H22A or F20B

i have 2 accords both with F22B's in them and i'm thinking of swaping my manual to either a H22A or F20B. I already know just about everything about both engines, hp, torque, and such. I was just hopeing to get some feed back from a few people with these swaps already done. How it runs, likes, diss likes, anything that u may think i'd like to know. Thanks.
Also what trannys u have, and which u think is best.

hands down get the h22 not because of more horsepower is because its a strong dang engine and if done right itll last you for a very long time. I git mine and I cant imaging not having it anymore. I'd drove one with the other engine and its not the same.

What are your plans for the car? A track car? Daily driven? And are you in love with revs? F20B = race and rev happy engine, awesome response due to a short stroke, low displacement, and high compression. H22A is more of a generic choice, you get decent all around performance, and they are cheaper. The F20B was designed by Honda to be tunable, and to race. The H22A was designed to be put into mass production, and make the best of everything. If you took both of these engines, and did a respectable NA build/tune, the H22 would make around 250hp, whereas the F20B would push up around 300hp, as once again, the F20B was designed for tuning. Put these engines in a CB7 chassis and put them on a track, the F20B would spank the H22 with the right driver, whereas in a straight line, the H22 would probably give the F20 a run for its money until the F20 got wound up. I would personally buy an F20, though more expencive, for me it would be more fun to drive, as I only go fast in the twisties, and dispise straight line racing. Just my two cents.

Both engines have the same hp stock. H22a have more torque but F20b has way more top end.

The F20 is a peakier engine though... that power is really only there up high, making it fairly impractical for a daily driver. Plus, any F20B specific parts won't be easy to find! If you replace a few things over time, you'll end up with an H22A.

It's a good motor, but it was designed by Honda to race in a 2.0L and under class. The H22 would've been used, had it met regulations. The F20B was created to meet the regulations of a certain race circuit. It's the best they could do with the limitations provided (which means it is NOT superior to the H22 because it was made for racing... it was created with limitations, making it, if anything, inferior.) Honda had to make a certain amount and put them in vehicles that were sold to the public to qualify as well... the circuit (I forget which it was... this is all from memory) required the motor to be a production motor. Therefore, it had to be offered in cars anybody could buy.

Overall, the H22 is the better choice, IMO. It's more common, yes... but that also means replacement parts are more common. It has more torque, which is good for the heavy Accord (especially one that isn't stripped for racing.) And it costs way less!

Although I must say that it is kind of depressing when the new engine you want to put in is like half the price or even just as much as the car

                    um no doubt

I would say h22, very nice engine. currently working on mine. Is a good time. vs anything else I love it so far, very user capable to do pretty much whatever I throw at it. so I would go h22. All depends on how much you wanna throw into it.

you said some bullshit about it being "capable of 300 to the h22a's 250, or some shit, and if you really paid attention, you'd know there is a guy on here (2point6) who is putting 250whp TO THE GROUND (engine makes over 250, probably around 300 crank at a 17% parasitic loss) so that kind of shoots your comparison down

the f20b has NOTHING on the h22a, AT ALL.......not only are 1/3 f20b's only putting out 180hp from the factory (autos) but they're higher and not better in any way.....the only real difference is that the h22a has .2 liters MORE DISPLACEMENT so that screams "get the h22a"

the f20b head doesn't flow better, nothing about it is stronger, etc......the h22a head still flows on the same level as the k20 heads but is about 15 years older in design, so that says a lot.......the h22a is the best bang for the buck of any honda engine, IMO.....you can get them as cheap as the h23a1 around here.....$1000 or so......

there is no reason to get the f20b over the h22a except that you wanna be different....fuck, get 13" rims and bust all your windows out while you're at it, that's different.......

the h22a can do more than what 99% of earth will ever do with it....why spend extra money
....and on the 7th day, deevergote rested and called his mom.

and something else, people have this illusion that the f20b was built to improve upon the h22a....it wasn't, it was built to be 2 liters or less because the rules of the btcc demanded that much....they just had to build a certain number of f20b's to be sold publicly to also meet the criteria.......

it wasn't an improvement of any kind, it made less power and the same peak power....it was governed by more strict emissions and controlled by obd2.....it is what it is, the least honda had to do to comply so they could race....why do you think the autos only made 180hp? they didn't give a fuck about it's peak numbers and just did what they had to so that it made decent low end power since it was only 2 liters, even though they lost 20 peak hp......it's the same thing dodge did with the first gen neons, the same tricks (tb, computer programming, etc)....if you can get both for the same price, then go with the h22a unless that difference factor gets you

Also, the F20B and H22A have about equal length strokes so I'm pretty sure they're equally revvable. There's really no benefit to the F20B other than it's racing pedigree; but I'm almost certain Honda used the H for touring car racing too.

If you want something better, get the Euro R or Type S H22. More power, better materials, and better craftsmanship. More expensive as well... but whatever.
