ANY BUYING/SELLING IN THIS FORUM WILL RESULT IN AN INSTANT BAN!

Read the rules: http://www.cb7tuner.com/vbb/showthread.php?t=43956

Myself, and the other mods have been very nice and lenient with the rules. We have been deleting threads, and giving out warnings. Some members didn't get the clue and re-posted over and over... Now ANY member buying or selling in this section will be banned... No IF's AND's or BUT's.

These are the rules. Read them. Live by them.

1) Absolutely NO flaming! "Flaming" is an outright attack on a member. ALL questions are encouraged to be asked here, no matter how basic. Members with over 30 posts will be subject to a ONE WEEK ban if caught flaming in this forum (and yes, moderators can read deleted posts). Members with under 30 posts will be subject to a ONE DAY ban.

2) Use appropriate language. Racial or sexual slurs will not be tolerated. A ban will be issued at the discretion of the cb7tuner.com staff.

3) No items may be sold in the Beginner forums. Any "for sale" threads will be deleted.

4) Temporarily banned members will be PERMANTLY banned if they are found posting on another account.

Tune Ups and Basic Mods help

So basically my 92accord lx is completely stock under the hood. At first I didn't want to touch it because it has 175k miles on it so I figured altering something would be bad, but I guess a lot of people still mod their cars at this milage mark and it's fine.

    I'm thinking:

    Cool Air Intake
    Headers
    Exaughst

(how much hp/tourqe is in a stock 92 accord lx coupe? and how much will I have after these mods?)

These I see on everyones car and anyone could replace those, but what else can you mod before going to a turbo or something and doesn't require a lot experience to do?

Also I need to tune the car up. The timeing belt is all set for now I beleive, the spark plugs and wires where just done, I need to do the air filter and oil soon, but what else is involved in routine maintence and how do I do them?

One more thing, the engine and everything looks like shit, how can I clean them properly without hurting anything? I'm afraid to just stick the power washer in there or something like that.

    Thanks

well first of all intake is very easy but do your ignition sytem up msd makes a kit for it and its very easy also cleaning up the engine jus get some engine degreaser at any auto store but you can powerwash it after but when degreasing it you will want to scrub with a cloth also if u want to make it look better go with a color theme under the hood and drees it up also paint your valve cover to make it look better

ok....the I/H/E will give you different gains from others..it all depends on condition of engine, quality of product etc.
The lx should have 125hp stock
If you want to clean up the engine, it would be best to cover all the electrical stuff (battery, dizzy, fuse box etc.), get some degreaser spray it on (while the engine is cold) and let it sit..you might want to get a lil brush or somethin to scrub if you have some really dirty areas..then rinse it all off..im sure some others will add to that since thats the basic method of cleaning

Thanks for the tips. How much would an ignition system cost and what are the benefits of one?

and a tune up generally consists of
            -plugs and wires
            -cap and rotor
            - air filter
            - fuel filter
-you could change the oil and filter
            - use some fuel cleaner/dry gas would help too...
            -pcv valve doesn't hurt

i think i'm forgetting stuff but some other people will chime in

              Plugs and wires I did
I'm going to get a cool air intake
The oil should be good, not sure about the oil filter.

              How do I do the:
              cap and rotor
              fuel filter
              pcv valve
and is fuel cleaner something you dump in the fuel tank? and whats dry gas

Sorry for so many questions Thanks for the help tho.

Clean the EGR ports, clean the Idle Air Control Valve, replace the PCV valve, and take the car in for a feul system cleaning. The shop only stuff is stronger and gets more carbon out than the stuff we can buy at the parts store. It's a 3 part job they do.

                  1. clean intake (you can do this also, and just as good as they do)
                  2. bottle of cleaner gets run through the intake - this is the strong stuff that we can't even buy without owning a garage.
                  3. bottle of cleaner gets added to gas tank - this you can also do yourself. I recommend the AmsOil fuel injector cleaner. I also recommend doing this at the beginning of a full tank of gas at the beginning of a road trip not less than 100 miles. You want the engine hot and continuing to burn off carbon.

And the PCV valve is mounted right on top of the valve cover. NEVER pay for this to be done. Buy the part online from a dealership like majestic honda or buy from your local dealership and replace it yourself.
It really is a labor of love making a neglected CB7 with "normal wear and tear" into something worth being proud of.

Replacing The Fuel Filter Is Easy and you can do this by buying another replacement fuel filter at autozone it is simple alls you have to do is uplug the 2 fuel lines leading to the fuel filter and replace it with a new one and plug back in the fuel lines for the cap and rotor now you said you have changed plugs and wires before so were you plugged the the wires into when you changed them is the cap and rotor and thats where they would be so go and buy an new one and replace them too when you find it you will see how to take it off and lat but not least dry gas help clean out your engine and fuel system

Okay, so, so far here's a list of things we've mentioned:

                          Tune Up List
                          1. Oil + Oil Filter
                          2. Fuel Filter
                          3. Air Filter
                          4. PCV Valve (top part of the motor)
                          5. Cap and rotor (where the plugs/wires connect)
                          6. Plugs + Wires
                          7. Spark Plugs
                          8. Fuel system cleaning
                          9. IAC (Idle air control valve)
                          10. FITV (someone clarify what this is please)
                          11. Throttle Body
                          12. EGR Ports (on the intake manifold)

                          Is there anything else?

                          Basic Performance Upgrades
                          1. Cold Air Intake (5-15hp)
                          2. Headers(8-16hp)
                          3. Exhaust(10-25hp)
                          4. Ignition System (No idea about these)
                          5. ECU Chip (15-20hp+ I learned about these today)

The hp values where my averages of many different types of each item that I've looked at. What other mods can cb7s take before a new engine?

                          Cleaning Enging Options
                          1. Degrease
                          2. Sand/Repaint/Wax/Polish
                          3. Cover up the distributor, intake, and electrical box.

Anything else we should clean and cover up?

Here's a list of helpful links I've found throughout a couple hours, including some already mentioned in this thread.
